Man Ireland Wilkins Nelson Loughlin and other panelists spoke five minutes each on school finance growth roads and housing. Ireland opposed House Bill 527 and warned of weather related school closures while Loughlin outlined schedule budgets and taxes. Nelson covered highways water fire and town services and Wilkins highlighted zoning, Veterans Building, conservation, and parking concerns with questions from the audience.
The Concord Planning Board votes to tentatively support converting the Veterans Building site into a park after its demolition while preserving a 20 foot strip as an access road to a future Mill Dam area parking lot. Immediate study of a municipal parking lot in the Main Walden Hubbard Stew block is urged.
Concord Le on Hurd a 34 of Garrison road Shirley was hit in the rear by a loaded oil tanker while parked at hospital corner Route 2 at 545 pm. His car plunged over an embankment. He was taken to Emerson Hospital with back injuries and released to his own doctor. The truck driver William D Markqued ant 21 of Ayer road Littleton was unhurt. Patrolman William J Costello investigated.
Fifteen residents attended a public hearing at the Town House about Stuart G. S. Dickson's dog complaint against Carl L. Veazie’s German shepherd Heidi of Birch Drive. Thirteen speakers indicated Heidi was not vicious. the Dicksons opposed. selectmen made no decision.
Concord officials accept the resignation of Louis Allen of Baker Avenue West Concord from the planning board. The move is effective immediately as he departs to Rome Italy for a project. Allen’s term would have run to March 31 1963.
David Warren Perley of Woburn is named town engineer for Concord by Town Manager Theodore M. Nelson. He will begin January 25 with his wife Barbara and infant son Jefferson Glen, after earning a Tufts civil engineering degree and serving in the U S Army. Perley comes highly recommended from prior work with Nichols Company and Feldman Inc.
Selectmen approve a petition for four tri party utility poles at the Asabet River bridge Route 62 requested by Edison Telephone and Municipal Light. A common victualler license is granted to Ethel M Gates Commonwealth Avenue. Lions Club circus request for Aug 1 at Heywood Street Jet Emerson Playground or Rideout Playground remains undecided.
Concord Herman B Dine state director of accounts certified free cash at 304 152 80 for the town. Town Manager Theodore M Nelson estimates 1960 taxable increase near 1 250 000 with a valuation around 24 861 150. 1959 enema amount listed as 23 611.

Charles E. Brookes of 17 Park is named manager of the Dewey firm’s polyfibron division. The appointment places Brookes in charge of the division’s daily operations and strategic development within the company.
Town Manager Theodore M Nelson opened sealed bids for the Cargill Well Pumping Station. No bidders submitted a bid. bids ranged from 24 431 by R H White Construction Auburn to 33 275 by Westcott Construction North Attleboro. No award was made. next week a decision was expected. The project is planned on Walden Street and to be completed about mid April.
The Concord Finance Committee will hold its annual public hearing at 7 30 p m in Wells A Hall Memorial Auditorium Concord High School Monday Jan 25. Voters may discuss budget town employee salaries maps school study Veterans Building Town House and related articles. Chairman Richard J Loughlin will preside.
The celebrations committee told the selectmen they met Sunday and chose Dr Francis C McDonald as chairman. They announced plans for a simple devout Patriot Day program on April 19 with a tentative speaker awaiting confirmation.
The Boy Scouts of Minute-Man Council will host an exposition at the State Armory on Saturday February 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. It marks the kickoff of Boy Scout Week and the organization’s 50th birthday celebration.
Town Clerk Cornelia M. Lawrence said no candidates had taken out nomination papers as of yesterday, leaving three nominees from the caucus in by acclamation. The final deadline to obtain nomination papers is Monday at 5 p.m. at the board of registrars office.
A house fire in Concord killed Suzanne Morency eight and Alfred Morency age four after the upstairs inferno trapped them. Fire officials and state investigators probed cause as firefighters battled the blaze and the Morencys evacuated with their surviving child Alice eight. The family, long prominent in Michigan, had lived in town two and a half years.
Concord Chorus starts rehearsals Tuesday January 26 at 7 45 pm at Concord Academy for Corona tion Mass and two Brahms motets. New members invited to attend and join during the mid season break.
William Caithness age 31 of Greystone Road Saugus skidded a car into the island at the rotary near Route 2 at Massachusetts Correctional Institute causing about 1500 in damage. He was uninjured according to police. Patrolman Ralph P. Thomas investigated for local police.
Concord Lion Club schedules supper for Tuesday January 26 at 7 pm at Howard Johnsons. President Robert L. Carter to preside and T Frederick Brown appointed program chairman to announce the agenda.
