Bus Driver Steers Into Snowbank to Avert Jump on Main Street

Police report a late night incident on Route 62 near Westvale where a bus driver swerved to a snowbank to prevent a passenger from leaping. A car halted suddenly forcing the driver’s quick turn, the bus then continued its trip with all others unharmed. Officer Pagano investigated.

Senior awards to highlight grid banquet

Concord prepares for a testimonial banquet January 31 at the State Armory honoring Concord High School's undefeated 1947 football squad. Twelve senior players will receive eight inch engraved trophies and share in varsity letters awarded to 29 players plus two managers.

Concord Tufts senior G Sherman Blair Jr. was elected state president of the Republican 21 Club of Massachusetts at the Boston conven tion. About 45 Concord members attended. Blair, active in Republican groups, will enter Boston University Law School in September.

Concord organizes clothing drive for European relief

Citizens form a committee to collect usable clothing and footwear for Europe. The drive, in cooperation with Church World Service, sets three local depots in Concord and West Concord with weekly collection starting January 17.

The annual March of Dimes fundraiser begins Thursday in Concord and runs through Saturday January 31st with local volunteers aiding the drive.

Concord town clerk Mrs. Elsie E Rose reports 115 deaths 540 births and 121 marriages in 1947, a record for births. In 1946 the town had 118 deaths 425 births and 144 marriages, showing 115 more births in 1947 with possible further reports to come.

Concord voters are reminded the deadline to insert articles in the annual town warrant is next Tuesday at 5 PM at the Board of Selectmen office. Nomination papers must be filed by Monday January 26 at 5 PM at the town clerk’s office.

Hospital admission for major operation in Boston

Concord Samuel G Kent of 10 Middle Street was admitted to a Boston hospital on Tuesday for a major operation. He expects to be confined to the hospital for two weeks and then at home for another four weeks.

Minor fire at Masonic Temple near Concord Rainbow Girls meeting

Central Station responded to Box 24 for a small chironey fire at the Masonic Temple early Saturday evening just before the Concord Rainbow Girls meeting. Damage was slight with a large crowd attracted to the scene.
