Robert Christie of New York spent the season at his parents home on Maynard Street. George P Goodearl of Storrs visited his parents on School Street. Sympathy goes to Mrs Henry L Capelle on the death of her mother Mrs Mary H Halliday of Lewiston. Mrs Frank Marshall of Brookline attended at Chadster. Harold Medeiros of Vanceboro, son of Mr and Mrs A F Medeiros Jr, visited Mr and Mrs Ralph Jones on Martin Street. Miss Irma Durkee played organ at the Congregational church with a six voice choir led by Frank A Merriam. Mr and Mrs Asaph Merriam spent Christmas with Leonard T Willard in Fitchburg. Willard’s daughter is Miss Georgia Griswold from Meriden. five present including Florence Willard, 10 months.
Mrs Lydia Handley widow of Capt Aaron C Handley died at her Maplest home during the night of December 26 aged about 33. A resident of the town for about 50 years she lived with her daughter Miss Emma Handley a longtime companion and faithful attendant to the Captain Handley family. Capt Handley was a veteran Civil War figure in the town and died in 1896.
Two thousand barrels of beer from Bowler Bros brewery were drained into Worcester sewers last night under secret orders by federal agents. The sudden disposal quenched the thirst of thousands in Worcester County's by gone days.
Middlesex school hockey team will be unable to play this Saturday if cold weather delays rink freezing. Practice begins Wednesday afternoon under coach Howell with assistant Charles Foote. The opener is set for next Saturday against Country Day School of West Newton at the school rink.
New Year celebration at the Concord Country Club featured a dance and merrymaking led by Mrs Nathan A. Middleton. A festive program preceded the dance with various novelties and a ceremonial ushering in of the new year.
Mrs George Minot, president of the Massachusetts State Federation of Women's Clubs, shared her official itinerary for the week. She visited the Somerville Daughters of Maine on Monday afternoon, the Middlesex Club of Lowell on Tuesday, and held council and board meetings at the Fatens in Boston on Wednesday.
Miss Georgia M Ives a Marlboro Grain Co bookkeeper perished in a house fire at Congord Rd North Sudbury. Sister Miss Sarah Ives suffered severe facial and neck burns. A collie dog aided by alerting a foreman and workers who tried to save the sisters. The home and all furnishings burned. Georgia Ives body later found in the ashes. Sarah Ives survived and was treated at a nearby house. Reports say death caused by injuries from the blaze and exposure.

Ok.
Concord residents were shocked to learn that Percy W. Allen, 66, superintendent of the Massachusetts Reformatory, collapsed at his desk Tuesday afternoon. Allen had served the institution for 28 years, rising from clerk to superintendent, with a reputation for strict duty and precision. Continued on Page Seven.
