Whitney entertains crowd at West Concord club reading

Despite Tuesday night weather a good sized audience welcomed Edwin F. Whitney as he presented a four act dramatic reading at the West Concord Woman's club. Mrs. Carrie E. Derby and her daughter Marian Derby provided piano accompaniment and performed two sets of songs surrounding the reading.

South Acton reports Miss Anna Nagle spending a week at home and David Foley visiting from Camp Devens. Various residents journeied to Somerville, Washington, and Lynn. A nurse clerk at the post office fell ill with liberty measles. The caucus selected Theron Newton for the board of health seat.

Local Guests and Memorial Mass Held in Concord Junction

Miss Hazel Pyle and Miss Esther Leighton visited in Concord Junction with Inez Armstrong and relatives. Charles Carr from Cambridge stayed weekend with friends. Fred Sullivan family from Lawrence joined John Hughes family. May Reilley visited Cambridge then attended The Man Who Came Back at Plymouth Theatre. The annual memorial mass for deceased Coheed council R. of Knights was held at St Bernard's Church Concord with many knights in attendance.

W C T U Meeting Urges War Strength Recruitment

The regular W C T U meeting at Mrs. George A Kilham Derby street is set for Tuesday March 5. Members are urged to attend for important business as Capt McClellan has received orders to recruit the battalion to war strength.

Bedford scholars join Junior Red Cross after long campaign

Several Bedford students from Lexington high school joined the Junior Red Cross in the past week. The campaign extended beyond Washington's Birthday as many schools closed due to fuel shortages.
