Fragmentary local notes report a village event at the start of the week and a Boxboro town recount. Mrs C H Schnair spent Sunday with daughters in Sheebute and Leominster, with details limited by the damaged text.
At Acton Center Mr. Holland led a word game with ten letters. Miss Tuttle's team won a close verdict from about 60 words. Captains were A H Kingsley and James B Tu, and popcorn balls were shared. Next event February 28 features On the Line.
Sudbury report notes the Grange acted on several membership applications at a meeting last week. The Legion held a town hall dance on Feb. 14 with Crane's of Boston providing music. The hall featured red, white and blue decorations.
Mr and Mrs George Stone observed their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary at their daughter’s home, joined by four generations. Mrs Stone, formerly Miss Helen Jones, is seventy eight. Mr Stone near eighty four. The day was marred briefly by Mrs Stone’s sudden illness, though she is improving.
Portland resident H M Parry spends winter in Concord while Mrs Morse of Salem attends a Concord players performance. Mrs Cochran Thom of Washington with her son at Middlesex School visits Concord. Miss H Gravesen returns from Albany. Ethel du Berger joins Ashburnham Inn weekend group.
Be O. F. four act drama Down in Maine at Odd Fer drew over 500 attendees with strong performances. Coach Miss Vera Bradford received praise for directing the play aided by Everett Sanborn as stage director. Cast included C. D. Chickering B. E. Hall Prescott Burrroughs J. A. Grimes W. J. Costello Jessie Briggs Warren Costello Bert Clifford Thelma MacCregor Mrs. Arthur Jones and Frances Hall.
Orrin S Fowler takes an oath to continue duties as town official. He has served as assessor constable member of board of health overseer of poor water commissioner cemetery commissioner and school committee since 1888. Dean among Maynard business leaders after 43 years in town.
A strong sentiment to increase the school committee from three to six or more members has grown this week. Law allows up to 15 members, divisible by three, with mothers of children on the board driving the reform. Finance committee members favor the change and say a warrant article may be placed at the March meeting if interest exists.
The single story home of Tony Golbrowski on Third Street off Waltham Street was destroyed by a midnight fire. The family of four children was away visiting friends in Boston. a friend was feeding the chickens earlier. Fire officials suspect an overheated stove caused the blaze.
William Boicourt, minister, leads the congregation in a study of simple truths of the Christian life in the Sunday school senior department. A talk on Long Term Investments follows as the morning topic. At 6 in the evening a Kiss gathering features a book discussion, then at 7 a union meeting with Methodist colleagues.
Concord Junction George Garfield severed ties with the Tuttle Market and accepted a salesman post with a Buffalo New York grain manufacturing company. He left for Buffalo last week to begin new duties.
Grace Hunter hosted a valentine party for 14 children at her home last week. The girls and boys enjoyed red heart decor and a large Jack Horner centerpiece with favors, refreshments, and games before early goodbyes to the young hostess. Attendees included Evelyn White, Eleanor White, Ennis Duren, Miriam Duren, Louise Bor, Roger Derby, Ralph Lapham, Connell, Earl Hicks, Dave Fredericks, and Arnold.
Miss Mary Lewis, longtime organist of the Congregational church and music teacher in Maynard and Marlboro, died at her home in Jamaica Plain on Sunday morning. Her funeral was held Tuesday morning.
