In an observance of Lent the Holy Name Society at St Michael’s Parish, Bedford, gathered sixty members for Holy Communion last Sunday. After Mass they moved to Grange Hall for a breakfast prepared by Frank Cloutier and Eddie Gox, followed by a talk by Dr. A Gauthrie of the Boston Red Sox.
Icy road conditions on Monday night and Tuesday morning caused several minor accidents in Acton. Despite sand being spread on the streets, the slick surfaces remained hazardous requiring motorists to proceed with caution. The most serious incident occurred around 2 am near the prior accident site.
MrsSara Morley French widow of Col Charles H French opposed the removal of an elm on her estate along Massachusetts Avenue. She claimed a 16 by 562 foot strip would not be transferred and vowed to oppose further tree removals. Town officials could not intervene. She described herself as the boss and warned she would resist any more cutting near her 72 acre property.
The Bedford Community Club sponsored a dessert luncheon in the school auditorium with 60 tables and valentine decorations. A knitted dress style show accompanied the event, with Miss Sally Griffin winning a blanket and Mr. Paul Webber receiving a hand-painted screen.
Bedford Grange held its regular Monday evening gathering in the Grange Hall, described as a patriotic meeting with the members present and participating in the observance.
Parker Street hall hosted the United Annual Membership meeting on February 15 1937 with about two hundred attendees. Charles W Manty presided as chairman as reports from the board and committees were given. The six month trading statement showed 1936 sales of 476931.00 versus 392719-18 in 1935 with net earnings of 25239.84. The board recommended a four percent trade rebate payable in cash or credited to overdue accounts. Managers and directors praised the society’s healthy finances and progress.
Sudbury, Florida reports the death of Laurette Bent Felch, native of Sudbury and eldest daughter of Landius P. Bent and Lauretta Hunt Bent. A Framingham State Normal School graduate, she married Walter I. Felch of Natick on March 1, 1686, and resided in Sudbury for years.
KalPing Chang, a native of China living in the United States less than two years, addressed the congregation at the Evangelical Congregational Church on Sunday morning, delivering a fluent address in English.
Maynard residents and surrounding towns gathered Sunday at Dike Hall for a Maynard Sportsmen's Club meeting. Address by Lloyd-Walker, field supervisor of game wardens, covered state wildlife topics as Knight Billerica and George from Fitchburg also spoke to about 100 attendees.
Charles Greenhalge, 83, of Uxbridge died Saturday at home. A former Maynard resident, he is survived by his wife Bathia and three sons Ernest Raymond and James. He also leaves two sisters, Grage Howe and Emma Greenhalge. Funeral rites for the Magonic lodge were held.
The Acton Town Team, dressed in new suits, visited the strong Knights of Columbus team in Concord on Sunday afternoon for a first series of games establishing the start of their season.

Firefighters from South Acton risked their lives on thin ice at the Mill Pond near Marlboro Branch Round House to save a dog that fell through. Ed and William Ca Hill’s pet were pulled from the water after a 300 foot trek with ladders. The dog was taken to safety and placed in a boat, with the owner yet to be identified.
Russell reads that a baby son of Mr and Mrs Wilgren died Sunday two hours after birth.
