Albert Littlefield reports two new pairs of horses in West Acton while Hall Bros Co mill business slows and several workers take vacations.
Mrs Sarah A Hutchins died at her West Acton Massachusetts home on January 29 at age 86. Widow of the late Dr Isaiah Hutchins, she was active in church and charitable works, hosted guests with hospitality, cared for the sick, and longed for reunion with her husband. Her passing ends a life of devout faith and service.
Mortimer H. Paine addresses Maynard voters outlining five reasons for his candidacy. He cites nomination acceptance, his children in public schools, commitment to child welfare and public health, aims to raise education standards, and his ten years teaching in Massachusetts schools.
Residents and critics testified at a Metropolitan Affairs hearing about Lake Walden facing state reservation takeover. Rep Moyse alleged rampant hoodlumism and lack of facilities while Judge Keyes cited orderly visits by Concord families. Opponents incl Winthrop Packard and Frank Alden questioned the measure and local conditions at the lake.
The West Acton fire department held an oyster supper on Thursday night at the fire house. The menu featured raw oysters oyster stew crackers doughnuts cheese pickles coffee oranges and ice cream. C J Holton chairman of the selectmen was the guest of the evening. F R Knowlton of St Petersburg Fla sent a barrel of assorted fruit from his own lot to his daughter here recently.
Miss Isabelle Wheeler has taken up residence at Hotel Canterbury in Boston. Mr and Mrs Ford C Baker of 25 Hubbard Street are spending the winter at Daytona Beach Florida.
Women from the James J Mansfield post aid by hosting a Valentine party at the State armory. The first public event of the Women’s Auxiliary netted about $200 for furnishing the new Legion headquarters. The evening featured a 7:30 film, dancing, hot coffee doughnuts and ice cream, with Mrs Horton Edmonds as chair.
Wellesley graduates nationwide prepare for a $2,700,000 endowment drive. After months of quiet planning, active fundraising starts February 14 with graduates, then a broader public appeal three weeks later.
A citizens caucus will be held in the town hall on Thursday evening February 10 at 8 o'clock to nominate town officers and elect a town committee for the ensuing year.
The Enterprise received an unsigned communication this week praising the stop of sliding on Walnut Street Mill. The paper cannot publish unsigned letters, even if the writer’s views are favorable, and urges readers to sign names for publication.
A Valentine Whist will be held at the Community House Monday evening February 14 at 8 o'clock. The 25 cent fee will support the Community House Fund. Work Committee efforts have made the House inviting for community life. Acton residents attended Concord High School pupils' presentation of As You Like It. Cast members Charles Allen and Wesley Middleton played their parts well. Dr Mayell and two nurses report little Frank Parsons recovering steadily from a weeklong pneumonia illness.
A Sudbury horse belonging to Archie Cadman stepped on its tongue injuring it badly. Dr Dinemore removed part of the tongue after the laceration. The animal was reported to be doing pretty well at present.
The town prepares for the annual town officers election on Monday Feb 14 at Cooperative hall. A record 1853 registered voters include 743 women signaling intense interest and a high turnout expected. Debate centers on party labels versus local needs and the Hudson system of nomination papers is discussed as a potential change.
The protective association assumed care of the lake shores and warned that state annexation as a reservation could turn it into a second Revere Beach, a fate to be avoided in such a historic spot.
Auction sale for Martin Peterson on Saturday February 19 1921 at 10 o clock a.m. at Maynard Mass features furniture carpets rugs and dishes from the Maynard House after a fire. Most items are smoke or water damaged but refinishing can restore them. Sale is ordered to move goods after the sale.
Mr Erickson, leader of the Middlesex Farm Bureau Boys and Girls Club, met the poultry club on Monday afternoon. Miss Forbes, leader of the Home Economics Dept of the club, met the local Home Economic Club at the same time.

Items include oak maple and walnut furniture dressers chiffoniers parlor and chamber sets tables rockers chairs linoleum carpets mattresses and more plus a 1919 Ford one ton truck. Sale touted as one of Massachusetts largest closing auctions in years with cash terms and pickup via Camb Street Harvard Square Viaduct car routes.
