Concord Legion Band Wins First at New Bedford Parade

Forty members of the Concord Legion Band led by Drum Major Kelly competed in the New Bedford Dig parade last Saturday. The Class A band category saw Concord take first with Norwood Arlington Weat Roxbury Watertown and Milton as five Massachusetts entries. Concord earned top honors again in Class B with a close second by Chester Con cord led by George Andini.

Concord Elks Triumph Over Maynard in Golf Match

The Concord Elks defeated Maynard in a golf meet at Maynard Country Club with a score of 8 to 4. Team members Joe Maconey Edward Megin and James Priest led their squads while Mrs Gianfrante hosted a banquet at the club house after the match.

Grange Holds Corn Roast at Musketaquid Gun Club

The Concord Grange hosted a corn roast at Musketaquid Gun Club last week with seventy five attendees including visitors from Somerville and Boxboro Granges. A skeet shoot was organized by Joseph and Augustiné Macone in the afternoon followed by dancing.

Lincoln carnival to aid Legion home funds

The Lincoln Post lawn party plans a Saturday afternoon event with rides foods and games from six towns. William C. Robug chairs the affair and public publicity while local volunteers handle booths ice cream and entertainment. The Concord Legion Band donates its concert to help raise money for repairing the Legion home formerly the Girl Scout House.

Town Team Returns Home After Pro Tournament Trip

The Town Team arrived home from a pro tournament trip that began in Wichita and ended in Boston with a 24 hour stop in Concord and a 41 hour bus journey including a five hour layover in Chicago. Relatives greeted the team at Park Square terminal while players sought rest and baths after the long travel.

New Post Office Building Contract Awarded

Bids opened in Washington last Friday for the new Post Office building to be built at Hubbard and Walden streets on land bought from Miss Marian A. Barker. The Structural Engineering Corporation of New York City submitted the lowest bid at 65000. A bid from Disandra of Providence was second. Concord residents anticipate the new building will improve conditions in the area.

Concord Police Chief William G. Ryan found a fat envelope of forty eight dollars at Walden Pond after an early swim. Papers inside suggested the funds belonged to Harry Theodore of Alston. Ryan located Theodore, returned the money, and the down payment on a car was represented by the amount.

Magazine Man Strikes Down Boy in Chicago

On a Saturday morning in Chicago 24 year old J Prior drove a Dodge Sedan on Main Street and hit a boy bicycle rider named Charlie after a sharp turn. Prior refused to pay for bicycle damage claiming no license, was arrested, fined five dollars for lacking registration, and remained in police custody until charges and licensing issues were sorted.
