Mrs Salvatore Bartolomeo died suddenly at 65 after a long residency in West Concord with her husband. Born in Italy, she immigrated over forty years ago and ran a large fruit store with her spouse while supporting ten children and six grandchildren. She was active in Our Lady Help of Christiana church and was remembered as a model mother across national lines.
Elizabeth Houston of Haverhill married George Sigurd Nelson of Concord in a six o'clock ceremony at the bride's grandmother Mrs. William Houston's home, with Rev. Gitchell officiating. Attendants included Helene Hall. best man was William Wilson. The couple plans to reside in Concord NH after a Maine trip. The groom is a Wesex County Agricultural School alumnus. Arthur Loftus began a two week vacation between Concord and Littleton.
Friends and families of Concord anticipate the team’s return home over the weekend after losses to Nebraska and Texas. Rudolph's Courier notes the town hopes for players’ arrival, while details from Wichita recount the first game against Lincoln with Lincoln winning 6-4 as Lehto gave up nine hits. Mara Arcione and Mara drove two hits each for Concord. Lincoln tallied in four innings and held a late lead.
(Continued on Page 2) Mrs. Megin formerly Woodcock dies early this morning at her home in West Concord after eight years in the town. Born in Weathersfield Vermont she leaves son George E Megin proprietor of the West Concord Laundry and daughter Mrs. Winifred Chaplin both of West Concord.
Enos EB Held head of the Concord High School music department attended the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg Austria from July 12 to September 1. He studied conducting under Nikolai Malko and Bernhard Baumgartner and interacted with Brito Walter and Toscanini era figures. Students and locals anticipate his fall return after a successful trip.
Concord calendar shows events for August 20 to August 24 including Legion Band at 8 p m and games Blea Hian vs Hubbardville and Herronville matchups. Public entries welcome Tuesdays for week listings.
Money missing from a sidewalk near the National bank in Concord drew swift attention. Police and citizens discussed the small sum and the odd detail that half the money vanished while the other half remained embedded in cement on the path to the bank. Officer Evan Thorpe inspected the scene but offered no comment.
Miss Dane Loring of Bargett's Mill road died suddenly in her car in Acton on Friday afternoon. She had taken relatives and friends to Acton to pick blueberries and rested alone in the car when the incident occurred. A passing officer found her ill and the others were summoned from the fields. Born in Chelmsford, Massachusetts in 1869, she lived in Concord since age two and attended local schools. She was a Concord High School graduate and active in Willow Rebecca Lodge and the Spanish War Veteran Auxiliary, and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Funeral services were held at her home Sunday afternoon at 2:30, with burial in Sleepy Hollow cemetery. She is survived by three brothers Alfred, John Lee, and Benjamin, and by nieces and friends in surrounding towns.
Concord State Trooper Hollie Beattie wins a revolver match using a standard 38 caliber revolver at Teaneck New Jersey during a national event held August 4 in the Daily Mirror sponsored competition. Beattie scores 120 out of 300 and holds the service match title for an upcoming event August 16 in New Haven where teams from across the country compete.
In Concord a loyal Irish setter named Boley hops into Gentile's bakery truck after 10:30 AM. The dog waits near Anderson's Market then jumps into the front seat beside the driver. He accompanies the driver through town on daily deliveries, a long standing custom with various bakers over the years.
Next week at Rideout Playground West Concord and Emerson grounds the boye and girls aged ten to sixteen will compete in track events and handicraft displays. Final awards will honor top performers based on points and mid season achievements as the playground year ends.
