A Boston man, unidentified, canoeing with two women on Lake Boon near Lakeside was struck by a passing motorboat. A fireman swam out to the man, aided by witnesses and a Dr Worthy, and revived him after artificial respiration. The trio left the scene before authorities could learn the man’s name.
Veteran official Frank Holt and police chief Foley in Acton discuss reviving local diamond play at Community Field. Youths and oldtimers may meet in a Maynard Acton series, with plans for battles between towns and a possible youth showcase. The church service at Concord adds local color as town talk centers on baseball revival.
Miss Cecelia F Sherr of Acton Street married Morris Patanofsky son of Ida Patanofsky on a sunny Sunday afternoon at the bride’s Roxbury home. Rev Me Prost of Boston officiated on the lawn with relatives present and a reception followed, guests traveling from Maynard Boston and nearby towns.
Arthur Vinas shop on Nason Street and the F K Saunderson store were entered late Saturday. A cellar partition board was removed to access Vinas at $15 cash stolen. Police investigation continues as residents take minor travel and work updates are noted.
A Maynard Grange meeting is set for Thursday August 13 at Grange hall. The program features Alice Howe smiles, a sketch titled Rhyme Under Difficulty by Ellen Sheridan, and dance numbers by Annie Floyde Grace Tucker and Eva Smith. Refreshments will be served directed by Lillian White.

Concord James A Christenson Jr of Hawthorne has been admitted to Harvard after high school exams. Leon G Christian of West Concord is admitted to MIT. Hilda Tortengen of West Concord is admitted to Radcliffe College. Christie son earned top honors with 131.12 high school points, well above the 76 needed for graduation.
Don Lent and a volunteer crew push improvements at Alutani Field as the track nears completion. Football players assist with shovels and picks while plans call for two additional helpers to blend practice with work for a fast upcoming season.
Maynard St Johns of Cambridge will play St Casimir's of Greater Boston Polish League at Creweport next Sunday afternoon. St Mary’s had been scheduled for that date but withdrew, giving locals second place. Trophies will be presented to the leading clubs. the rubber game promises fireworks as St John’s and St Casimir’s renew their bitter rivalry.
The Catholic Daughters of America Our Lady Help of Christians Court held its sole August meeting Tuesday evening in Odd Fellows hall. Grand Representative Mrs Cornelly Bedford presided as members prepared for a busy season ahead.
Maynard resident William Kulik aged 46 died after being struck by a gasoline freight train as he sat on the track near Sudbury and Mill streets. He suffered severe injuries, died at Emerson hospital. Survived by two daughters, one son, and two brothers Felix and Joseph. Funeral held at St. Casimir’s Church with Mass by Rev. John Dzick. Burial at St. Bridget’s Cemetery.
Miss Mary Anglons daughter of Mr and Mrs Casimir Anglons of Cran Avenue will take the vows as novitiate of the Order of St Francis at a convent in New York on Saturday August 16. A graduate of Maynard High School and St Elizabeth's Hospital School for Nurses she has worked as a registered nurse since graduation and spent two years in Florida. She has been at the convent in Allegheny since returning from Florida last spring. Her parents and relatives plan to attend the ceremony.
The group traveled by train to Quebec after a six to seven week journey along the Atlantic coast. They toured Newfoundland and Labrador coastal towns, met Dr. Grenfell at Dry Point Mission, and saw the Strathcona voyage to St Marys and a new hospital project at Battle Harbor before returning to Concord by rail.
Maynard youths King Gutteridge and Thomp- began a motor tour to the western coast. All three drivers shared wheel duties as they left Maynard at 6 am Monday. They reached western Ohio by Tuesday morning and Chicago by Tuesday night. They passed City, Iowa and Rapid City, South Dakota by Thursday. Their objective was Yellowstone Park and the coast, with plans to return toward Maynard afterward.
Maynard captain Vincent Sullivan calls for a Maynard team to join Lent Lions in the Acton Fair horseshoe pit game. He invites all interested players to report at the Lent club on Hayes and McKinley streets on evenings weekends. The team recently beat Garnet Mill of West Concord and has a Medford game tonight and a match with Whites Crowneat outfit peotis.

Mizpah Rebekah Lodge Past Grands Association held its first outing at Dr Tasker's cottage on Lake Boon featuring bathing music games and luncheon. Attendees included Mesdames Mary Jones Louise Howard Annie Morris Bessie Buaptersen Siella White Ella Price ette Graham Olsen Gertrude Keene Sylwia Isner and Mrs Crosby of Lowell. Officers to be nominated at the Sept 3 lodge meeting.
Maynard Watick Framingham Watertown and Hopedale lodges plan a joint banquet at Framingham to honor Carl Freeman Charles and Frank Colombo of the Progressive lodge of May Sana. Atty General Joseph Warner and James Beck former Chelsea mayor are invited to speak.

Maynard West Concord golfer Maynard Frank C Leighton made a hole in one on the 150 yard third at the Maynard Country Club Sunday in a foursome with Kenneth Vamon Walter Lapnam and Henry Holy. It marks Leighton as the fourth player in ten years to ace the hole using a No 4 iron.
The American Legion Auxiliary of Maynard plans a staging of Here to Hollywood a local comedy at Maynard High School Auditorium on September 14 and 16. The production features a cast of local talent and aims to entertain the community with an evening of light entertainment.
The Maynard and Marlboro K of C golf plans show teams from both councils preparing for the annual tournament. Opening match slated for Marlboro on Wednesday August 19 with a return at Maynard on September 2 subject to change. Maynard stars include Sheridan Murphy Coughlin Sullivan Ledgard and many others. Marlboro roster includes Hurley and Sheridan. The George H Guttridge trophy last year went to Marlboro but Maynard aims to reclaim it in Highland City.
In recognition of their sixtieth wedding anniversary Mr and Mrs William G of Lincoln Street will host friends on August 20 from 5 to 7 9 p m at their home. Their daughter Mrs George E Lawton of 9 Lincoln Street will attend. The couple have lived in Maynard since 1881 and are well known.
The Finnish Business Men's Association of New England held a Sunday outing at the Knights of Kaléva grounds in Fort Pond with about 100 members from across New England. Jacob Latrilla of Maynard is president and Maynard sent strong representation to the event. The program was attacked by Mr. Lau and William Lehonen.
Maynard residents report a morning assault on milkman George Stokes on Powder Mill Road at 4 40. He was slugged and robbed of nothing of value as two men fled in a automobile. Hoffmans lunch cart on Nason street and Priests diner on Summer street were broken into at night with a bag stolen from Hoffmans after forced entry. Police say they are investigating the incidents.
Concord Art Association presents Water colors by twelve eminent exhibitors at the Art CenterLeaxington road. Notable works include W. Benson Late Sunlight and Still Life Dish of Fruit. Waldo Howell’s delicate group of water colors, Sears Gallagher Before the Storm and Coast Storm, and Charles Woodbury Tide Run are highlighted among a broad array of landscapes seascapes and portraits.
