The Consolidated Gas Co plans gas service extensions to five new towns including Sudbury and Groton. Residents may soon receive pipeline access as the company works to extend piping to Cochituate and surrounding areas, with local officials noting improvements in utility coverage.

Town Republican and Democratic committees announce nominees for town offices and delegates to state conventions, listing names such as Thomas Wright Oliver Trees Alice Howe Sadie Case William Smith Agnes Driscoll and others.
The 44th annual Family reunion was held at Vose Playgrounds with nearly 300 members present. Officers were elected, a basket lunch served, and games, swimming, and entertainment followed a mass at St Bridget's Church. Prizes honored oldest member Daniel Sheehan and mother with largest family, and Florence Trainor welcomed as youngest baby.
Boston attorney Arthur P. Hardy reports in Middlesex Superior Court that Joseph L. Sturtevan of Newton and Sudbury suffered about 10 000 in damages due to changes by Henry Ford at the Wayside Inn property in Sudbury. The Carding Mill Pond dam lowered Hop Brook flows, creating a 42 acre pond and reducing water on Sturtevan’s land, with evapotranspiration estimated at about 194 000 gallons daily.

A wedding took place Thursday evening July 31 at Memorial church in South Sudbury. Miss Ruth Giles of Brookline wed Alfred N Lufkin of Concord with Rev Albert B Reynolds officiating. Bridesmaid Harriet Giles and groomsman Carl Prime attended. The couple received guests at Clifton Giles’s home.
A report notes a dispute over a wheel at Cardingle Pond deemed unreasonable and will be reviewed by Middlesex Superior Court for final action. The case moves toward a judicial decision in the near term.
Lewis Shaw of 33 Roosevelt Street, a 26 year cemetery commissioner, died yesterday at Emerson Hospital Concord after an operation. He was 74, born in Dover Maine and a 46 year resident of this town. Survived by wife Amelia two daughters Mrs B T McCarter Garden City Long Island and Mrs D H Fisher Winnetka Illinois. three brothers Fred and John Shaw of Dover and Edward Shaw of Sheboygan. Funeral at St George's Church Friday at 2 with cremation? Burial in Glenwood Cemetery. Shaw active public official, member of Maynard Lodge I O O F Waltham Encampment Sumner Hill Lodge AO UW. He helped organize St George's Episcopal Church and served as treasurer vestryman and Men’s Club member. Many neighbors called to pay tribute. Floral tributes noted.
Concord remembers A C Anderson with military honors at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. The Ex serviceman served in World War and was escorted by James Mansfield Post 108 A L detail. A Guard firing squad and bugler from Co H 182nd Infantry attended. Rev George Loring Thurlow led services. pall bearers included Concord and neighboring town members.
John Murray 39 long-time Sudbury Street resident and World War II veteran dies Saturday morning at the U S Naval Hospital Chelsea after weeks of treatment. Survived by wife, he was a member of Frank J. DeMars Post, American Legion. Funeral at St Bridget’s marked by requiem mass, procession by Legion members, and burial at parish cemetery with taps and rifle volleys.
John A Sweeney 17 of Somerville drowned during a quarter mile swim at Walden Lake Concord after cramps and exhaustion set in. A girl fellow swimmer and an unidentified man attempted rescues but could not save him. Sweeney, a St Clement's alumnus and former First National Stores clerk, leaves five sisters and a brother.
Maynard witnesses a runaway express horse named Dobbin race through Main Street and river intersections before a milk man driver, Mr. Ennégnass, calmly halts it by steering between a bakers truck and a car. The shaft snaps. no one injured. Heat continues to affect wells and local supplies.
A special town meeting was called to set an early date to appropriate funds for highway improvement and repair. The Finance Committee supported the appropriation as roads deteriorated after the sewer installation. Officials note substantial future road spending and suggest public improvements this year to aid jobless residents. Boston police seek a youth believed connected to a brutal killing of policeman J. T. O'Brien. O'Brien, WWI veteran and father of two, was shot Sunday night after questioning two suspicious youths near a parked car. Investigators think one suspect fled toward New York after leaving a bus in route.
