New Law Excludes Military Service in Social Security Calculations
A new law removes time served from 1 October 1940 to 1 October 1945 from computing average monthly wage for old age and survivors insurance. Previously, military service counted toward credit divisions, reducing benefits. Now credit is divided by months under security before and after service, excluding service months.
