Gustine Peanut Festival Oct 7 hosted by Gustine FFA

Gustine community members and the Gustine Vocational Agri department announce the annual Peanut Festival set for October 7. Local Youth Future Farmers of America members urged to enter divisions including livestock poultry field crops and cotton. Awards include cash prizes across cattle poultry crops and equine divisions. Order To Begin Operations On Comanche County Court House

The Comanche County Court House demolition starts Monday after a September 26 1939 work order to McCharen. Sixty days are planned for tearing down and clearing debris, with about 14 to 15 months needed for a new building, under superintendent William M Bellville.

S Clark Rural Mail Carrier Ill At Home Here

George S. Clark a rural mail carrier on Rural Route 4 is ill at home with a serious illness. He went to Wichita Falls last week to visit his daughter and for medical examination. Doctors advised if he would be unable to work for the next few months. Joe Marshall has been carrying mail since August 23.

1909 Comanche Chief notes on building and drouth relief

Twenty years ago the Comanche Chief reports on a proposed three story corner building costing about 20000, mentions a Masonic block and local civic matters. A mass meeting at the court house with about 400 attendees discussed voting road bonds to aid drought relief, and notes on teachers exams and a grocery incident.

The Comanche Indians open defense of their district title here tonight at 8 o'clock against the passing German Panthers in the first conference game of the 3S season. Pair Arrested For Peanut Theft Near De Leon

B E McClaren and stepson J B Baker, living seven miles southeast of Dublin, were arrested this week and charged with stealing forty sacks of peanuts from Baxter Bay near De Leon. They allegedly cut wire fences six times to reach the field. Peanuts recovered in a cellar at the McClaren home and identified by sewing and sack brands. footprints matched the pair. Sheriff Wid Spivey says both men confessed. McClaren arrested Tuesday night in Dublin area, Baker in Stephenville Wednesday morning.

Durham Firm Mat To Shell Pecans Here This Fall

The Durham Pecan and Pean It Plant of Comanche will not shell pecans this fall. Walter Durham says the Wage and Hour Law set a 30 cent per hour minimum for pecan pickers, inflating costs. The firm will shell peanuts instead and may buy unshelled pecans if a market opens locally.

A fence will be placed around the court house to keep the public out while the building is demolished and the new one erected.

FSA Meeting Here Saturday

Farm Security Administration Supervisors will hold a meeting in the District Court Room in Comanche at 2:00 PM on Saturday September 30 to explain the program to prospective borrowers. Woodrow R. Allen says both spouses must attend and be registered at a meeting before any loan steps proceed.

Howard Kilpatrick proprietor of Kilpatrick Hardware and Kilpatrick Variety Stores is back on the job after an illness that required an operation in a Brownwood hospital for appendicitis. He returned home last week and has spent short periods at his stores since the start of the week.
