Newburg Home Destroyed in Late Night Fire

The residence of J. E. Snodgrass at Newburg burned down after midnight on Sunday. Snodgrass and his children were nearby at Gustine picking cotton when neighbors found the house fully ablaze. The building and its contents were a total loss. The insured amount stood at four hundred fifty dollars. A vacant filling station nearby escaped damage.

First Peanuts Shipped From Local area

The first peanuts were marketed in Comanche Friday by J. M. Nelms selling to the Higginbotham firm for 45 cents per bushel. The first car is scheduled to be shipped from Enna today by J. V. Carter Sr. A car of peanuts was shipped from Gustine Wednesday by J. Carter Sr. and J. V. Carter Sr.

Cotton receipts in Comanche rise from last year

Seven hundred eighty bales of cotton were received in Comanche Thursday at noon, compared with three thousand eight hundred seventy eight bales on the same date last year.

Comanche Leads Fight to Stop Law by Injunction

The message from Comanche and DeLeon officials describes a campaign to block the measure after it became law. W. H. Carpenter Oscar Callaway and others petitioned for injunctions as constitutional questions arose. District Judge Joe Kidson granted a temporary injunction and a federal San Antonio ruling followed. Fort Worth Judge Young also issued an injunction against enforcement two weeks prior.

Breckenridge Wins Energy Game From Indians

Breckenridge overwhelmed the Comanche Indians 54 to 0 in their opener as the Buccaroos relied on power running. Hodges Estes McFalls and Pitzer starred on offense while Martin and White powered the line on defense. Comanche showed sparks with 11 first downs but could not penetrate Breckenridge’s strong defense and wind-aided late drives.

A large turnout at the Hasse 4 H and Community Fair showcased home economics and agricultural exhibits under County Agent J A Barton. Clark Taylor of Oregon was arrested at his uncle home near Sidney and taken to Comanche by Sheriff Dwight Brightman. He is accused of kidnapping his children after his estranged wife tried to place them in a convent per Portland authorities who ordered his arrest and detention until Oregon officers could arrive. Dublin Highway 10 Section 1h Accepted by State Dept

The four mile stretch of Highway No. 10 from the Erath County line to Dublin was formally accepted for the State Division Engineer John M Wednesday. The road will not be open until Sunday, pending survey work for final estimates, but upon completion will complete a modern road from the Colorado River to Fort Worth.
