Carlton, Sept. 15. J F P McCarty fifty seven prominent Sunshine farmer was shot to death at his home this afternoon. His son Paul McCarty age 15 was charged with murder and jailed after surrendering to Constable A J Gibson. The shooting followed the father's refusal to loan money to buy a farm. Three shots struck the elder McCarty, one behind the left ear and one in the back. The son telephoned the neighbor and the constable. McCarty leaves a widow and eight children. The grand jury is reconvening Wednesday at 10 a m to investigate the slaying.
Will Rogers stars in Connecticut Yankee at the Ritz Theatre with Sunday Monday and Tuesday showings September 27 28 and 29. The management announces the film as a standout comedy hit and Rogers brings Mark Twain humor to the big screen.
A 4 H Club and Community Fair will be held at Hasse on Friday September 18 with exhibits in the tabernacle and judging after dinner. County Agent J A Barton assists with arrangements and notes the Hasse exhibits will be shown at the DeLeon 4 H Club Fair.
Comanche reports 157 bales received up to Tuesday morning, far short of last year’s 300 on the same date. The first 1930 bale arrived August 4, with 24 today. weekly totals expected to climb to 50 daily. About half the cotton is being marketed as it is ginned, according to Public Weigher C F Denny.
Mr. L Little of Sipe Springs will be in the race for Commissioner Precinct Now One accord ing to his statement to the Chief Monday. Mr. Little has resided at Sidney and Sipe Springs for the past fifteen years.
A large crowd filled the District Court room as Oscar Callaway led a mass meeting blaming the Federal Reserve Board for restricting currency. Speakers including Mayor J R Eanes and county attorney F O Jave urged restoring circulation to aid farmers, with Callaway outlining a plan to petition and hold future meetings across the region.
Division Engineer John Mead of Fort Worth accepted the Leon River bridge Wednesday praising it as one of the prettiest in the state. The 1022 foot structure, built in four months under Ross’s direction, opened to traffic immediately after acceptance. Work began April 15 and completion is expected by October 1. further crossings at Winchell, Granbury, Bluff Dale and a Paluxy bridge are planned, shortening the Comanche Dublin run.
Mr and Mrs Claude O Neal and daughter Ruth of Eastland spent the weekend in Coe Manche with Mr and Mrs John Cash.
Dudley Moore of Lampasas joined a Comanche visitor on Saturday, sharing a brief local encounter and hospitality in the community event.
