A nostalgic tribute extols the Empire State Building as the world’s tallest, offering a vivid tour of its 102 floors at 1200 feet. It praises the workers whose perilous labor built the landmark and notes millions visit yearly, urging avoid holidays to escape crowds.
A proposed bill would allocate one cent to counties to retire county and district road bonds two cents to the State Highway Commission and one cent to schools. If signed by Governor Sterling the funds would retire bonds in Comanche and Erath counties as bonds become available. The measure shifts funds from current allocations with schools receiving one cent and the highway commission three.
The state tax rate rose five cents to 74 cents per $100 valuation, the highest since 1925, due to lower valuations and a delinquent tax deficit. Governor Sterling announced the raise after a Senate vote against salary cuts. Comanche County will pay about $6,376.45 under the new rate.
Mohair from Comanche stored at Brightmans Warehouse weighing about 60 000 pounds sold Tuesday through the Co operative Marketing Association at 15 and 385 cents per pound with kid hair fetching the top price. Brightman attended a West Texas warehouse operators meeting in San Angelo and said a Co operative representative will visit Comanche to take up the wool within days.

Governor Ross Sterling signed the bill repealing the Peddler Tax Law at noon Thursday. Representative Homer C. DeWolfe introduced the repeal in the House during a special session. The act ends a long fight after the Anti Peddlers Law and had been challenged in state and federal courts.
Thieves entered a rear window and looted the W. D. Howell Energy Store of about 200 dollars in merchandise and 50 dollars in stamps and Post Office money. Four strangers were seen in the area. a car linked to the suspects was found abandoned near Fort Worth. Local officers investigated with Gustine officials. further thefts later targeted Eric Leavy's Fleming store for gasoline.
Proctor High School girls opened the basketball season with an 11 to 1 victory over Beattie on Friday night at Beattie. The game showcased a strong start for the newcomers and set a fast pace for the season.
State Highway Department announces Highway 10 will be hard surfaced through Erath County from the Comanche County line to the Hood County line. At a recent Austin State Highway Commission meeting awards were set: Erath County receives 46711 to revise grade lines relocate sections and surface from Stephenville to Dublin. Erath County 92900 for travel surface from Hood County line to Stephenville. Miss Romee Walker, Western Union Operator, has left for Chicago for a two week visit. Miss Springstead of Lampasas will relieve her.

Mayor J R Eanes proclaims Fire Prevention Week starting October 4 1981 urging schools churches and civic clubs to cooperate. The Comanche fire department logged thirteen fires this year with losses totaling 34700 and answered sixteen more incidents none with major injuries.
After a August quake rattled Central West Texas residents in Comanche some believe pavement cracks appeared on the Public Square. Firemen washed the square a week earlier, then small cracks showed up. City crews under S. S. Payne poured hot asphalt to fill them.

Bailey plans to buy all kinds of produce but will not handle cream yet. Mr and Mrs John D Waring Jr and children visited Cisco for the weekend with Miss Terra Tu. John D will then move to Shitene to work with Floyd Malcorab Construction Company.
Judge Joe H. Eidson and District Attorney Tom L. Robinson announced that the L. P. McCarty murder case will go to Comanche for trial in the October term starting October 19, 1931. A special venire of 100 men summoned for Hamilton appeared unnecessary. witnesses will be notified of trial date but not resummoned. Paul McCarty, charged with killing his father L. P. McCarty on September 15, is held in jail awaiting transfer to Comanche. The Hamilton jury had been reconvened and returned an indictment for murder with malice aforethought.
Firefighters quickly extinguished a midday kitchen fire at the home of Frank Carver in South Comanche. The origin is unknown and Carver had partially controlled the flames before the Comanche Fire Department arrived. Brownwood visitors Mrs C B St Clair Mr and Mrs KK Shelton and son Jerry were in town Sunday.
