R W Stewart Hurt In Accident Friday

R W Stewart of Comanche was slightly injured Friday afternoon when his truck struck a parked car on the Comanche Hamilton Highway eight miles west of Hamilton. Both vehicles were badly damaged and Stewart's injuries were minor.

Comanche High School opens the 1943 football season with a trip to De Leon to face the Bearcats in a conference game. Co captains Jimmie Carpenter and Harold Ray Burks lead an inexperienced, light Indians squad aiming for an eighth straight win over De Leon. New coach W Z Compton leads 33 players many under 120 pounds as Sprouse Murphree and Richard Armstrong headline the lineup with Carpenter at right halfback and Burks at quarterback.

Col Eli Brown on Leave from Overseas Duty

Col. Eli Brown of the U S Army Medical Corps is home on leave after almost two years abroad. Mrs. Brown has been living in Fort Worth during his absence and is with him. He visits his sister Mrs. P A Pettit and relatives in Gustine. a fish fry in his honor is hosted by Mr. Pettit. After leave he will be stationed briefly in Dallas.

Silk and Nylon Drive Ends Next Thursday in Comanche

County salvage chairman C. F. Denny urges final cleanup of silk and nylon hosiery with the drive terminating on Thursday September 30. He notes nearly all county clothing stores are collecting these materials for the government to aid the war effort.
