District Manager C. K. E. Still announced a new rate of seventy five cents if paid before the 10th, with a minimum of one dollar per month. He said the company aims to keep gas affordable while preserving a modest profit, and that this rate would compare favorably with similar towns.
J R Layne resigned as principal of Van Dyke School due to ill health after a 44 year public education career. He led Van Dyke since 1926 and previously headed Comanche High School 1912 to 1917 and served as superintendent 1917 to 1924. He also directed Tarleton Summer Normal and held superintendencies in Rule Hamilton Clifton Median Valley Mills. taught first grade in McLennan County and managed Stamford College summer normals.
George McKinzie of Farmers Produce Company says the turkey outlook is positive with summer prices higher than the past two years and potential for record shipments from Comanche. He notes turkeys are healthy, fattened by a large grain crop, and that farmers with turkeys are better off than those with cotton. Tom Edwards of Edwards Produce comments on market conditions.
The bill to repeal the Forty second Legislature peddlers tax on itinerant farm product sellers was introduced by Rep Homer Wolfe of Goldthwaite. In San Antonio a court hearing Friday will consider an injunction against enforcing the new peddlers license law with a panel including Judges Hutcheson Kennerly and West. The injunction petition names Gov Sterling and several state officials. petitioners Hayward and Jenner Manufacturing claim $185000 invested in their businesses.

DeLeon business men sponsor a community event with a short program planned.
A crowd of about 2000 attended the Annual Comyn Community Fair on Tuesday, the largest ever. The program featured an address by Rev. S. B. Culpepper Sr of Cleburne, a free barbecue, and afternoon ball games alongside livestock and poultry exhibits won by C. M. Caraway in beef cattle and hogs.
Blanket School will hold formal opening exercises in the school auditorium at eight oclock Saturday evening to accommodate the public. There will be no program Monday morning when school begins. teachers will proceed immediately with regular work, according to Superintendent R. T. Fortune as quoted by the Brownwood Bulletin.
A two day conference for Vocational Agriculture teachers from the district will be held at Tarleton College on September 14 and 15. The meeting aims to outline programs for day and evening schools for the coming terms. Attendees from Comanche County include J. B. Cooper Proctor W. Doyle Graves Comyn and O. B. Rose Gustine, per the college announcement.
Mrs. Anna Belle Smith and her daughter Pauline from Fort Worth spent the weekend as guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Burt, sharing time in their home.

A new non competitive exhibit plan at the Third Annual Sheep and Goat Show in Comanche drew praise from sheep men and visiting breeders. Tom Glimp Jr. of Menard plans to introduce the concept in the DeLaine Breeders Association shows. One hundred fifty seven sheep and goats were shown on the Court House Lawn, a record high, with officials noting the educational purpose over prize winners.
Representative Homer C. DeWolfe of Comanche and Mills counties speaks in Comanche on his opposition to the Anti Peddler Bill and his stance on state highway bonds. He favors reimbursing counties from current revenue rather than issuing new bonds, arguing highway revenue may suffice if funds are allocated over time.
A mass meeting is set for Saturday September 12 at 1 30 p m at the Court House to discuss the low mood and rising prices of cotton wheat and farm products. Hon Oscar Callaway says the Federal Reserve system causes conditions and will discuss the Fed Board created during his congressional term.
Two alarms were answered within two hours as Mrs. G. A. Dodson’s house caught fire at eight o’clock and a grass and trash fire in Mrs. J. W. Scurry’s yard threatened the home. A curtain catching from a gas flare caused damage roughly twenty five dollars. the blaze was contained before reaching the Scurry residence. Fire Chief R. C. Gra described the scene as under control shortly after responders arrived.
Tommie Tatum spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Tatum.
Lee Moody named freshmen coach at Daniel Baker College by head coach Ed Blair. He will handle scrub duties assist line coaching and scout work while finishing his A B degree after standout play for Comanche High School and four years with the Hill Billies.
Without his glasses lost last week W A Carleton relied on a Chief classified ad. Mr Mitchell returned the glasses within a day after the ad appeared. Mrs Hayes found the glasses and had a neighbor deliver them to Mr Carleton.
