Comanche High School Indians open the 1946 football season at home against Olden High. Coach Dyer notes 22 new uniforms and a 75 member band will appear at halftime. starting lineup includes Rippetoe Cun ningham Phifer Smith Mazurek Greene Bigad Hicks Scott Howell. The district voted to raise admission prices to 75 cents adults 35 cents high school students 15 cents for games.

Dallas Specialist Performs Dallas Blue Baby Operation
Dallas doctors report successful blue baby operations in August at Children's Hospital of Texas and Baylor Hospital. Four-year-old Comanche boy Arthur Morris improved enough to leave Aug 31 after the first Dallas procedure. Other patients included Janie Lou Adair and Hiram Giddens, with Don Depew awaiting surgery. Surgeons say rearranging blood vessels offers a chance at normal life.

Record Peanut Harvest Set New County Acreage Peak
The 1946 Comanche County peanut crop rises from drought fears to a record acreage between 90 000 and 95 000 as rain boosts yields. A Edwin Pierson of the AAA notes peanuts become the county’s principal money crop with potential 20 bushels per acre and total revenue 4.5 to 5 million dollars, plus 250 000 to 350 000 from hay. The 2 to 5 inch rains over two weeks doubled yields and may push value above 2.50 per bushel based on parity and grade adjustments.

Fire destroys Gustine store and damages nearby property
A fire completely destroyed the Fred Adcock Grocery Store in Gustine early Friday. Owner Mr. Adcock valued the loss at 3000 dollars with 1200 dollars insured. The building, a recent structure, belonged to Rufe and J B Adcock. Comanche Fire Department assisted but no other buildings were reported endangered.

Mass Meeting Form Local Campaign Against Beer Return
A large gathering at the First Baptist Church in Comanche, nearly one thousand attendees including 27 ministers, organized a county wide effort led by Rev. T. J. Sparkman to oppose the return of 4 percent beer. Rev. O F Dingler of Waco spoke, Rev. J. W. Whitefield was elected permanent chairman, Rev. Sparkman vice chairman, and Rev. E. N. Strother secretary treasurer. A fund was raised and a committee named to hire an attorney for legal matters.

Durham's Prescription Pharmacy of Comanche ranked first in Rexall product sales in Texas cities with populations under 5 000 for the year ending July 1 1945 46. United Rexall Products lists about 4 000 stores nationwide and 15 Texas stores on the honor roll. Durham’s store is 130th nationally and only four of the Texas leaders are independently owned.

Petition Circulates to Call Beer Election in Comanche County
County Judge O E Rippetoe says a proper petition is required to call a beer election in Comanche County. Nine petitions in proper form are circulating. one with 61 signatures was returned. A valid petition must have at least 10 percent of governor votes, about 364, likely needing 500 signers to proceed. The Commissioners Court must call the election if a proper petition is presented. The timing ranges from ten days to a later date.
