Legume Winter Crops Promoted by Comanche Vocational School

The district report from Comanche County Vocational School urges legume cover crops for WWI veterans era farming. It cites hairy vetch wilt plans Willamette vetch Austrian winter peas and inoculation with bacteria, plus fertilizer and seeding rates to boost soil nitrogen, humus, erosion control, winter pasture, and seed income.

Comanche County Delegates at Democratic State Convention

Seven men and one woman from Comanche County attended the Democratic State Convention in San Antonio. Oscar Callaway and Cleve Callaway were among travelers, with other local participants including Mr. and Mrs. H. L. The group backed Governor-elect Beauford Jester, as conservatives formed a sizable faction. Delegates discussed strategies with Jester and advisers as prep for the Legislature session. Rev. George B. Clark and his wife returned to Comanche after months in Olds where he preached.

Methodist Revival Begins Sunday

A second revival for the conference year opens Sunday at the church in Omanche. Rev J W Whitefield preaches with song services by M H Comanche High School band. Services are 10 am and 7 30 pm daily. Attendance at spring revival was strong and the church invites all to attend for attentive preaching and good singing.

Sipe Springs G I First In County To Get Free Car

D M Childress a World War I veteran from Sipe Springs will be the first in the county to receive a free automobile adapted for hand control funded by a new federal program. Eligible ex servicemen with loss of a leg may choose any car under specified cost. Childress 37 enlisted from Sidney but resides on a farm with wife Bessie and six children near Sipe Springs.

Little Appointed Special Officer in Comanche

Elmer Little, formerly Gustine nightwatchman and constable, was named special officer by the City Council for the rest of the year in Comanche. He began duties Monday, accompanied by Mrs. Homer Randolph of Cali and her sister Mrs. O M Scott.

Masonic Lodge Owns Modern Three-Story Brick Building

Comanche citizens learn of a $40,000 brick building owned by the local Masonic Lodge. First floor houses a confectionery and cafe, second floor offices for government workers, third floor lodge work. No debt, weekly income, growing membership, and proud leadership by Earl Burnett and E L Pierson. The lodge prospers with tenants and paid rents.

Susan Frances Worthath Poindexter born September 30 1860 in Annona Red River County Texas died August 25 1946 at her home near Gustine after years of ill health. She married J F Poindexter December 31 1878 at Annona. They moved to Comanche County 46 years ago and had five children Ivie Fort Worth Joe Dallas Bryan Amarillo and Mrs C B Rinehart Gustine. Her husband and daughter Cleo Johnson preceded her in death. She leaves 13 grandchildren seven great grandchildren and sister Mrs J P Lee Comanche. She joined the Methodist church at 18 and was laid to rest beside her husband at Evergreen Cemetery.

Band Mothers To Handle Concessions At Friday Game

The Comanche Band Mothers Club will run the concessions at the Comanche Coleman football game Friday night and all home games this season. Proceeds fund band uniforms and equipment. Mrs. Castle B. Ellis says cold drinks, sandwiches, peanuts, popcorn, and candies will be available to fans.

A census survey of the City of Comanche is underway with canvasser F. L. Little. The purpose is to determine the exact number of residents and collect information aiding growth analysis, sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs. D. G. Hampton Taken By Death

Mrs. D G Hampton 73 of Comanche died at home on East Central Avenue after weeks of illness. Funeral at First Methodist Church with Rev J W Whitefield officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery by Order of Eastern Star. Born Mary Jane Hambrey in Oxford Alabama, she moved to Texas as a child and lived in McGregor Dublin Belton and Comanche. Survived by her husband D G Hampton two daughters Mrs E L Thompson and Hattie Mae Hampton, a sister Mrs H C McCune. She united with the Baptist church at nine and with the Methodist church for over 40 years and was noted for mercy in Comanche.

Dr and Mrs Gray Celebrate Sixtieth Wedding Anniversary

Dr and Mrs A J Gray of Comanche observed their 60th wedding anniversary with an informal family gathering at 704 West Walcott Ave over the weekend. Relatives included brothers Newt and Gene Gray of Fort Worth, sister Mrs Alice Hallifield and her son George, and brother Gilford Gray with wife from Gorman. Mrs Gray, born Ida Johnson, was raised in Bell and Dr Gray recently received Tulane University recognition for the golden anniversary of his graduation.
