Dove Season Opens September 16 In District
Game Warden Wood announced the dove season runs forty two days from Tuesday September 16 to Monday October 27. The possession limit is twelve birds at any time, with legal penalties for exceeding it. All guns must be plugged to three shells and hunters must carry their license when outside their home county. Reports indicate abundant doves and good conditions, though ample water may slow hunting.

Mr and Mrs Stephens announce the birth of a son William Rhea Jr on Tuesday at 9:00 am in a Brownwood hospital. The baby weighed eight and a half pounds. Mother and baby are well and staying in Brownwood with her mother until they can return to Comanche.

Homer Collins, farmer in Fairview, marketed the first 1941 peanuts in Comanche, selling 200 bushels from 6.5 acres at $1.12 per bushel. No. 3 grade weighed into a local bumper crop with numbers toward 10 or 11 million pounds expected this fall. No. 1 peanuts bring $1.32. Seining Lawful In County Statement by Rep Howington
Representative Frank Howington and D. C. Bailey left Comanche Monday to join the Legislature special session called by Governor Coke Stevenson. Comanche Public Schools opened Monday for the new term with 851 attending and an expected rise to 1000 within two weeks. Enrollment by school shows High School 324, Grammar 258, West Ward 269, with W. W. Hanna of De Leon elected director of vocational agriculture to complete the faculty. The Comanche County tax rate is set at 64 cents this year up from 53 cents last year. District No 1 includes Highway 10 at 8 cents and District No 18 from the Erath County line to Dublin at 12 cents. Estimated revenue is 113600 dollars with expenses around 108738.78 leaving a 4861 dollar reserve for delinquencies and contingencies. The total valuation is the county’s lowest in five years at 8243438 dollars versus prior years.
