Dove Season Opens Next Wednesday in Comanche County

The dove hunting season starts Wednesday September 16 in Comanche County. Hunters may hunt without a license in their home county but a license is needed elsewhere. The daily bag limit is 10 birds, not 12.

Hibbs Appointed Science Teacher and Assistant Coach

E B Hibbs of Brownwood was elected science teacher and assistant athletic coach of Comanche High School by the local school board. He began work Wednesday at noon. Hibbs, a Howard Payne graduate, is married with one child. Mrs Hibbs is a Howard Payne student. He has prior experience as a teacher and coach.

Dudney Joins Army Air Corps Reserve. Dry Cleaners Stay Open

Bill Dudney, owner of Dudney's Dry Cleaners in Comanche, has joined the Army Air Corps Reserve and will depart next week for training. He passed mental and physical tests at Tarleton College and announces the business will continue operating in Comanche under his wife’s management.

Patriotic Rally Honors 75 Sidney Boys in Service

On a shaded Sidney School campus a patriotic program honored 75 local boys now in the Armed Services. The event featured prayers, readings, songs, and a rally by Sa Home Demonstration ub members, with addresses by J B Albcorn of Comanche and Byron Lusk urging bond purchases. About 200 attendees enjoyed a picnic supper after the ceremony.

Baptist Assn Plans Four Day Lake Eanes Session in 1943

The Comanche Baptist Association votes to hold its 79th meeting at Lake Eanes in 1943, expanding to four days from two. The gathering, set to start the Thursday night before the first Sunday in September, will feature speaker Dr. George Truett of Dallas. Mount Pleasant hosts report a successful meeting with W. D. Starkie elected treasurer succeeding the late William Reese.

Whiskey Seized In Raid Here

Sheriff Wid Spivey seized three cases of whiskey from Ben Millican in Comanche Monday afternoon. Millican was arrested and released on $500 bond, charged with possession of intoxicating liquor for the purpose of sale.

The Comanche Chapter of the American Red Cross received material this week to be made into girls wool skirts in sizes 4 12 and 16. Individuals or groups should contact Mrs Park Huntington in Comanche to sew. Skirts aid girls who are victims of fire flood or storm disasters. Jars in Comanche business houses collect donations for United States Armed forces.

County seeks scrap salvage drive for war effort

County leaders led by C F Denny and County Judge H H Lockridge urge all residents of Comanche County to gather scrap iron rubber and other salvage for war factories. A special next week asks every citizen to contribute and coordinators offer WPA trucks farm pickups and local firms Hoffman Williams and Williams Motor Company will help collect and transport salvage.

Shock To Head Drives Cadet Recruitment In Comanche

Karl Shock named to represent Comanche in a drive to recruit Air Corps Cadets. The effort is led by the Junior Chamber of Comanche with Sammie Waisman of Brownwood Junior Chamber of Commerce and Sgt. Wm. J. Hess coordinating. Youths 18 to 26 may contact Shock for information and forms. Mental exams are held Fridays at Memorial Hall Brownwood, with birth certificates and three letters of recommendation required, followed by a Camp Bowie physical if the exam is passed.

The total enrollment for Como manche Public Schools at the end of the first week is 877. Co manche High School has 317 students, Grammar School 281, West Ward 279. High School splits: 65 Seniors, 78 Juniors, 80 Sophomores, 94 Freshmen. Grammar School with eight teachers lists eighth grade 92, seventh grade 79, fifth grade 74. West Ward with eight teachers lists fifth grade 35, fourth grade 172, third grade 81, second grade 70, and first grade.
