The Comanche County Livestock Association held a Friday night meeting with local and Fort Worth representatives to discuss livestock transport needs and tire distribution. They warned that Comanche County loses hundreds of pounds of rubber monthly under current rules and sought a larger Texas tire quota and coordinated rail truck shipments.

Physicians attending George C. McKinzie, manager of the Farmers Produce and Cheese Company at Comanche, report he is in improved condition after suffering typhus fever at Medical Arts Hospital in Brownwood on Thursday afternoon. He remains in serious condition overall.

Examination For Postmaster At Comanche Set

The Civil Service Commission announces an exam for the Comanche postmaster job with a 2600 yearly salary to succeed J R Eanes. Applicants must file blanks with the Commission by September 8 and pass a physical test plus a character recommendation. Veteran veterans receive extra credit. age limits 23 to 63, or 70 for veterans.

Mr and Mrs H M Shorty Vineyard announce the birth of a 7 pound son at a German hospital Saturday. The baby has been named Ronnie Mac. Both mother and baby are reported to be doing well and at their home in Comanche.

Married men with children likely spared from draft

Chairman Andrew J. May of the House Military Affairs Committee said a Selective Service survey suggests married men with dependent wives and children should not be drafted for another year and a half, possibly not at all. He urged permanent deferment for those with no other means of support and no families to return to, to avoid disrupting war production.

Miss Mary Lee Claimed By Death

Miss Mary Lee daughter of Mrs J A Lee of Comanche died at a Brownwood hospital following an appendicitis attack after an operation. Funeral services were held at the Comanche Methodist Church with Rev A Bryson English and Rev J D Smoot in charge. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery. She is survived by her mother and three brothers Marvin Herbert and Joe B Lee all of Comanche County. A Navy recruit offers a free new suit.

Comanche Native Henry Huffman Completes Officer Training

Marine Lt Huffman Henry Alli son 25 of Comanche finished ten weeks of officer training at Quantico Virginia and is assigned to active duty as a platoon commander. Huffman signed with the Marine Corps after graduating Howard Payne College in 1940 and is a former Comanche High School football captain in 1935.

Kilpatrick Opens Hardware Store in Stephenville

Howard Kilpatrick and Elton McCullough open a hardware store in Stephenville on the street between J C Penney and the Majestic Theatre. McCullough serves as manager and has moved with his family from here to Stephenville. Kilpatrick is noted as a progressive local merchant.

Roy Brannan Chosen Red Cross County Chairman

Roy W. Brannan was elected by the Comanche County Executive Committee as County Chairman of the Red Cross succeeding Miss Berta Goodson. Brannan is president of the Comanche School Board and a member of the Comanche Wholesale Grocery firm, also serving as Baptist Sunday School Superintendent.

Army Air Corps recruiting visit targets West Texas mechanics

A board from Goodfellow Field and the Advanced Flying School will interview men ages 18 to 45 with mechanical and technical backgrounds in Comanche on Friday and Dublin on Saturday. Openings include aircraft mechanics, radio technicians, metalworkers and aircraft welders with schooling at San Angelo airfields. Enlistments take place at Goodfellow Field or the Advanced Flying School with rapid promotions and local assignments near home.

Monday deadline for firms to file ceiling prices

Firms serving consumers wholesalers or manufacturers must file their ceiling price lists with the Local War Price and Rationing Board by midnight September 10. A sample copy is available at the County Board office, says Miss Sibyl Lam, secretary. The board urges cooperation to keep price control effective and protect businesses and homes.
