Public Weigher C F Denny and local ginners project a larger cotton crop in Comanche County this season. Denny estimates at least 5 000 bales, with yields improving even without beneficial rain for sandy land cotton.

Federal court in San Antonio granted a temporary injunction blocking the peddlers tax law. A statewide fight is planned with local organizations forming in major towns to contest the measure, while a three-judge federal hearing in Austin on September 3 will decide its constitutionality.
Comanche City Schools opened with 571 students on the first day, up from 558 last year, as the High School held its formal opening and the West Ward and Grammar School reported increased enrollments. The Leon Bridge on Highway 10 between Hasse and Proctor nears completion with final polishing and cleanup to finish by September 15. Built at no local cost under a federal 75 million dollar bridge program, it spans 1022 feet with an 22 foot roadway and employed 50 workers, mostly locals, amid two overflows delaying work.
Comanche Milling Co promotes home made flour in 48 lb sacks. Wheat farmers urged to supply flour for sale under the brand Flour vauran tending to satisfy customers.
County officials and businessmen in Stephenville and Erath County launched an effort to secure a 100-foot right of way for State Highway No. 10 through the county. The State Highway Department proposed asphalt paving if the full width is obtained and suggested routing changes to straighten the road by removing right angle turns and sharp curves.
Mrs. C M Riddell, a former Comanche resident, was slain at the Riddell Grocery in Hobbs New Mexico. Her husband was arrested on murder charges after he was found badly wounded and hospitalized. Riddell had moved from Breckenridge with the couple more than a year ago and leaves a daughter Waydeene aged 18 in Baytown.
An old advertisement for Peerless Produce Co offers ice cold melons and fresh meat. It advertises cold storage for rent and trucking services as part of the poultry and egg buy/sell business.
Comanche High School launches 1931 football with about thirty candidates and eleven lettermen under coach Pat Cagle. Scrimmage follows two weeks of fundamentals. Breckenridge visit Sept 19 opens the schedule, with Cisco, Brownwood, DeLeon, Gorman, Strawn and others on the pending roster.
Texas sheep men will gather on the Court House Lawn September 7 for the Third Annual Sheep and Goat Show. New classes include rams, billies, get of sires, and feeders with Lawrence Sumner of Schleicher County to judge feeder lambs. Fom Gliniv Jr. of Monard will head the program as Texas Lane Merino Sheep Association treasurer designate.
