County Not To Discount Early Tax Payments Comanche County will not join with the State in allowing a discount for early payments of taxes. County Judge R. E. M. Charen notes the Commissioners Court has taken no action. The State offers 3 percent in October, 2 percent in November, 1 percent in December. The Legislature intended the reduction in all divisions, but the Attorney General ruled local approval needed. The City of Comanche will not allow the discount, says City Secretary Hardie Jones. Tax Collector P. A. Pettit says state tax cannot be paid without county tax.

Six Bales of Cotton Ginned in Comanche County
Six bales of cotton have been ginned and weighed here, according to C F Denny, Public Weigher. With low acreage, the three Comanche gins schedule ginning on Tuesdays and Fridays, predicting about 1,000 bales marketed this fall. The first two bales were ginned August 19, with J T Smart of near Comanche and G A Tischler of Priddy bringing in the first 1939 Comanche County cotton.

Dove Season Opens September 15 in Comanche County

Two Fined Here In Liquor Trials
Ellie Cloud of Comanche and Elza Billingslea of Gustine were fined this week in the Comanche County Court for unlawful sale of intoxicating liquor. Cloud was convicted and fined 100 dollars plus costs. Billingslea was convicted on the same charge and for repetition, receiving a 200 dollar fine plus costs.

Comanche County starts its first heavy movement of the 1939 peanut crop.
