A speaker recalls critics who scolded him at seventeen for youth and again at forty for age. He decries a carping world and jokes that the balance point between youth and manhood must have escaped him while he slept.
R J Daniel of Sidney delivered the first 1931 cotton bale to Comanche on Monday. It weighed 1340 pounds and sold for 6.25 cents per pound with a premium of 62.25 dollars in cash and 5.45 dollars in merchandise. Daniel plans three more bales from 15 acres. The first bale arrives later than 1929 and near the long term average.
Three fires in ten hours caused about 4000 dollars in losses in Comanche Friday night. Slim Adams' Chevrolet truck near his South Manche Lake Road burned, while C E Straley’s farm house south of Comanche was totally destroyed. a barn with feed was saved due to wind. The Straley house carried 1250 dollars insurance and was a well-regarded framed structure built by J T Grissom.
Judge Joe Eidson issued a temporary injunction at Hamilton Saturday testing the Anti Peddler Law's constitutionality. The filing named investors and farmers from Comanche County who fear the law will ruin truck and fruit markets and threaten local livelihoods without multi county tax burdens.
A kitchen ceiling fire almost completely destroyed the residence of C. M. Moore at 10 a m Thursday. Neighbors and firemen saved part of the house while Mrs. Moore was elsewhere. Insurance on the house and contents totaled 2250 stated by City Fire Marshall W A Pate. A garage and other outbuildings were not damaged.
The Northern Zone of Texas where Comanche County is located opens on September 1 and closes November 1. Hunters may kill up to 15 per day and 45 per week. No license is needed for residents in their own or adjoining counties. a state license is required for hunting elsewhere.
Ex congressman Oscar Callaway will speak at eight o clock this Friday over K F L Plain Radio Station of Dublin. The subject is The Present Low Mood and Its Relation to the Federal Reserve Board, announced by station owner C C Baxter.
The Comyn Fair opens Tuesday in September with Superintendent S. B. Culpepper Jr announcing plans. Home crop and school products, livestock and poultry will be shown. A noon barbecue and a band concert, baseball games and short films are on the program led by Doyle Graves and committee members.
No more first doses of Typhoid Serum will be given in the Health Program, says Mrs. C FE Frost, committee chair. One hundred first and second doses were administered by Miss Jean Dunnett, Dry J. O. Lane, and the third dose will be given next Thursday.
Mr and Mrs Lawrence Brown and family and Mrs Paul Brewer attended the funeral of their niece Mildred Gooch Saturday afternoon at DeLeon.
The Comanche Independent School District announces the opening of school Thursday September 3 at 9 00 a m across three buildings. Grades 1 3 meet at West Ward with Principal Miss Cordin Lindsey. grades 4 7 at Grammar School with Principal Mr Jenkins. grades 8 11 in the High School Auditorium for a brief program and registration.
The High School Tuition Law allows pupils age six to twenty one to attend public schools free if the district maintains a maintenance tax. Districts without high school programs must pay tuition for transferring pupils, with state aid if necessary, and transferring pupils receive free tuition for as long as state and county funds support the receiving district.

Miss Maurine Byrd of Blanket had her tonsils removed at Comanche Hospital Friday. Mrs. Eeverett White of Comanche had her tonsils removed at the local hospital by Dr. J J Osterhout Wednesday.

A mass meeting at the county court room adopted resolutions condemning the school grouping and called for revocation by the County Board. Oscar Callaway Frank Redwine George Moore W A Tipps Mrs A B Haworth and Bob Haynes spoke in opposition. George Moore elected president of a County Wide Citizens Association for the Preservation of Local Schools.
L. E. Gooch and L. W. Brown, charged with burglary, were moved from the Stephenville jail to the Comanche jail by Sheriff Dwight Brightman and Deputy Turner. An attempted jail break led Erath authorities to release them to Comanche officers. Hunter Russell remained in Stephenville.
