In a federal conservation effort the Brazos River Conservation and Reclamation District heard Col. Henry Hutchings Jr. outline a tentative plan to ease flooding with six new dams. Projects include reservoirs on the Bosque Lampasas Leon San Gabriel Yerna Navasota rivers near Belton Comanche Taylor Brenham Bryan and Waco and Whitney Dam already under construction. Brownwood Attorney Charles McCartney Found Dead
Charles Lee McCartney, 50, Brownwood attorney, was found dead on the fourth floor of the First National Bank Building at 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Justice of the Peace F. A. Loudermilk said an inquest verdict was not yet ready. The body, found near the elevator by his wife Catherine, showed head injuries possibly from a fall. A fresh cigar remained in his mouth with a bottle of medicine beside him. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and held a law degree from Cumberland University. Burial was in Greenleaf Cemetery after funeral services at the First Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, his mother, a sister, and a nephew. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were local lawyers and Brown County Bar Association members.

Buster Hicks Injured In Elevator Shaft Fall
Buster Hicks, REA manager at Littlefield and former Comanche resident, suffered a broken right arm in five places and a broken hip after falling about twenty five feet down an elevator shaft in a Plainview office building. He remained in a Plainview hospital for a little over a week before returning home to Littlefield. Hicks was attending REA business with a contractor when he stepped off the elevator and remembered a coat upstairs. His mother in law Mrs. Joe Marshall is visiting the family in Littlefield.
