Mayor Waldrop issues Armistice Day proclamation urging Comanche firms to close on November 11 1947 to honor World War II veterans and those who died in the war and calls on citizens to attend patriotic services in Comanche.
Lionel Slider recently opened a hardware store and Star Tire Store in the Zimmerman Building on Worth Highway near Ee Duenebe. He is the son of the late W. R. Slider, a prominent Comanche merchant, and says the shop will feature quality merchandise at low prices.
W A Hellums 80 known as Uncle Billy died at home after a three hour illness, ten hours after returning from Merkel to visit daughter Mrs J T Blackburn. Funeral at Comanche Funeral Home with Rev Leroy Woolsey. burial Oakwood Cemetery. Survived by children Aaron Hellums Portales NM and three Comanche area daughters. longtime Baptist member.
Funeral services were held at Comanche for Mr Ed wards age about 60 family recalls long service and community ties He was born in Red River County in 1901 married to Bertie Belle Parkman and survived by a daughter Dorothy and son Marvin Also surviving are a sister and three brothers with many nieces nephews and out of town relatives attending the service including Parkman and Edwards families and friends from San Angelo Eastland Brownwood and Hamilton California.
Mrs Hicks 81 known as Aunt Ollie died Sunday in Comanche County. Funeral held Monday at 4 pm at Comanche Funeral Home with Rev J D Smoot officiating. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Survived by Kerby Hicks Lonnie Hicks Neely Hicks Mrs Jack Cuthbertson Mrs Roy Spivey all of Comanche. Mrs Joe Allen of Haskell. Mrs Hughes of O brien.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW will sponsor a game tournament and bingo Saturday night at the Veterans Building Comanche. A 25 cent charge is to be collected. Dominoes 42 bridge and other games plus bingo will be played. Starting at 7 30 and continuing to 11.
The paper corrects a two week old notice that Otto Stevens of Lamkin is not seeking a divorce. The Chief clarifies the error at his suggestion.
Comanche High School Indians travel to Dublin to face the Dublin Lions on Armistice Day in a toss-up district clash. Kick-off is at 2 o clock. Both teams carry one district defeat, with Comanche losing 25 0 to the Mavericks while Dublin fell 6 9 to Eastland and 25 0 to Eastland earlier.
The Ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary will sell poppies on Saturday November 8 and Tuesday November 11. Proceeds aid disabled veterans, child welfare, and rehabilitation efforts.
De Leon resident Cc L Lightfoot, father of the county tax assessor J E Lightfoot, underwent a major operation at Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth this week and is reported in serious condition.
R E Barkley from the Brownwood Navy Recruiting Station will tour the Comanche Post Office Building from November 10 to 14 between 9 00 a m and 12 30 p m to recruit for the Navy and issue World War II Victory Medals and defense medals.
Sunday night singing at Indian Creek begins at 7 45. Hackie Langley, leader, urges all quartets and singers to attend and participate.
City Council ordinance prohibits night fishing and night boating at Lake Eanes with a penalty of fines for violations. The measure, published elsewhere in this issue, takes effect on the date shown.
Monumental western epic to be shown at the Ritz Theatre on Monday and Tuesday November 10-11 with a 2:30 matinee and 7:30 nightly shows. Stars include Jennifer Jones Gregory Peck Joseph Cotten and Lionel Barrymore.

C M Caraway and Sons of De Leon Texas will send a show herd of purebred Shorthorn cattle to the 1947 International Live Stock Exposition and Horse Show in Chicago. Fourteen head are listed for Shorthorn competition as the event runs November 29 to December 5 at the International Amphitheatre.
The Hallowe'en Carnival at Comanche High Gym drew a crowd Saturday night and cleared 314.97. Juanita Bonser was crowned Carnival Queen of 1947, with funds split between the Junior Class Gym Fund and Band Mothers.
Comanche continues rapid growth with new homes under construction city wide. New structures include J W Carter building on North Austin for Bo Peeps store and Lawrence’s Food Bank expansion. Other projects include Perry Bros store near completion and a Central Texas Fertilizer Co building nearing production.
Mack St. Clair has purchased the confectionery department of The Owl here while Fane Waldrop keeps the bus lines agency and Western Union contract. St. Clair, a World War II veteran, is the son of former Sheriff and Mrs. Perry St. Clair.
The J. T. Mays Company with stores in Comanche Stephenville and Dublin begins an anniversary sale offering reductions on household items. Ben Cleveland manager of the local store says the sale runs through next Wednesday and more details appear in this issue’s advertisement.
The Gustine Tigers defeated Williams School 6-0 in a last Friday football game. The shutout showcased Gustine's defense and late scoring drive.
The Bo-Peep Shop will open Friday in the J. W. Carter Building just south of the New Majestic Theatre. Owned by Mrs. Georgia May Woolsey and Mrs. Eunice Ramsey, the store offers Philadelphia Frocks for girls Jakie Junior Apparel for boys and a full infant apparel line.
Led by Mathiews Blore Hicks and Sparks four backs power Eastland to a 25 0 win over Comanche. Eastland dominated with 306 rushing yards and controlled the game after halftime as Hicks scored on a six yard run following a blocked punt setup.
A letter from Mrs. I. E. Ran some of Cuero reports Ernest Dingwall died of a heart attack on Sunday night October 26 at 7 30 PM. He was 48, born in Comanche, worked for the railroad, and died at his post near Carrizo New Mexico. His wife Velma and two children aged 9 and 4 lived with him at 3704 Chester St Carrizo. His sister Ransome and brothers George Bennett Bill Dingwall Donald Dingwall and Collin Dingwall attended his funeral.
Mrs Harris Lane travels to Amarillo to visit her son Elwyn Lane and his family, sharing time with relatives during a local visit.
