Mrs. Nancy Humble Griffin, age 86, recorded 32 folk songs for the Library of Congress at her Austin County home on October 22 with John A. Lomax and his wife. The recordings will be cataloged in the Polk Song division. Rockefeller Foundation funding supports future reproductions.

Jersey Breeders To Meet Tuesday Night In De Leon

The Comanche County Jersey Breeders Association will meet in De Leon Tuesday night November 4 at eight o'clock. President E C Seay urges all members to attend for final and last minute details for the Comanche County Dairy Day to be held in Comanche November 6 at the Rodeo Grounds with O B Phillips as secretary of the association notifying members of the meeting location.

Army Captain Dodson Faces Drunk Driving Charges

Captain T. A. Dodson of Camp Bowie was charged with driving while intoxicated after an arrest two miles west of Comanche on the Brownwood Highway. His car had been in two minor collisions moments before the arrest by Sheriff Wid Spivey.

Governor To Attend Comanche County Courthouse Dedication

Governor Coke Stevenson has accepted an invitation to speak at the dedication of Comanche County new courthouse here on Monday November 24. He will attend as guest of the Comanche Lions Club at noon with music by the Comanche and De Leon Bands and a program to be announced by Mayor Clyde House, program chairman.

New Road Paving Project At Gustine Approved

A work order was received by Park Huntington resident engineer of the Texas State Highway Department to start construction of a flexible base and asphalt road from Gustine to the Dublin Lamkin road three and a half miles east. State funds totaling 8500 dollars funded the project.

Comanche Man Sells 198 Pheasants in Dallas

John M. Cowan of Comanche County AAA Office sold one hundred ninety eight pheasants in Dallas last week in a likely record sale in Texas. He has raised pheasants commercially for six years and plans to sell about 1,000 this season with around 200 more to market soon. The birds were placed in cold storage for sale to exclusive Dallas restaurants. Cowan raises them on his farm near Downing.

Howard Payne Faces Tough TWC Tonight

The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets host the Texas Wesleyan Rams at Howard Payne Stadium Brownwood in a showdown that could decide the 1941 Texas Conference title. Both teams are undefeated in league play and lead the standings with Abilene Christian College. Major and Mrs. George B. Black have taken roles at the State Home For Dependent and Neglected Children in Waco.

Dairy Day Show Planned for November 6 at Comanche Arena

County Agent Doc Ruhmann reports final plans for Comanche County’s first Dairy Cattle Classification Show and Program. Cattle owners must bring animals to the Rodeo Grounds by 10:00 a.m. November 6. Breeders Association sponsors the event to educate on dairy cattle grading and production. E. R. Eudaly will classify cattle and Elmo V. Cook discusses increasing milk production. An exhibit features a dam and daughter demonstrating improved type using a proven bull.

Chance For Big Saving on Taxes in Texas Remission

Delinquent taxpayers in Comanche County are urged to pay overdue taxes before the Friday deadline to qualify for the most liberal remission in Texas history. If fully paid, all penalties and interest are waived under a legislative plan adopted locally. Interest and penalties can reach up to 46 percent of the tax bill in a single year.

Dr Robert T Hill laid to final rest on Round Mountain

The ashes of geologist Dr Robert Thomas Hill were scattered from Round Mountain six miles west of Comanche in private rites attended by friends and relatives. The act fulfilled his last wish after a lifelong career studying rocks begun nearly seventy years ago in Texas.

Howard Elected Officer In Texas Teacher Meeting

County Superintendent Dale Howard was named vice president of the Mid-Texas Educational Association at the executive committee meeting in Ballinger. He has ten years in teaching and three as county superintendent, plus leadership roles in local, district, and state education groups. Dr. Hill Remembered by Two Daughters in Dallas

In a Dallas service, the two daughters of Dr. Hill, long associated with the Comanche and Dallas geology circles, paid final tribute to the late physician. Postmaster J R Eanes recalled Hill’s lifelong curiosity about geology sparked in youth by a Tennessee shell formation discovery. The report notes Hill arrived in Comanche as an orphan at age fifteen in 1873. Continued on page six.
