Plans for the Twenty-Sixth Annual Comanche County Junior Livestock Show January 20-21, 1961 progress well. Forty-eight head of commercial steers have been on feed over 30 days. General Superintendent J A Cox reminds Comanche County FFA and 4 H exhibitors the October 20 deadline to purchase animals. Exhibitors must own animals 90 days prior to the show. Classes include Fat Steers, Fat Lambs, Fat Barrows, Breeding Beef Heifers, Breeding Dairy Heifers, Breeding Sheep, Breeding Goats, Breeding Swine. with new breeding swine classes this year.
Cub Scout Pack convenes next Monday at the Boy Scout House in Comanche. Cubmaster Roy Turner urges full attendance of parents, cub scouts, den mothers, and interested supporters.
Rev. Lloyd Coker formerly of Comanche and Blanket Methodist Church is transferred to Beth el Methodist Church near Waxahachie and will begin duties November 1. The Comanche native has an outstanding Blanket record and his new appointment is viewed as a promotion. He is the son of Mrs. D. T. Coker and began farming after marriage before entering the ministry seven years ago.
Eagle Scout awards were presented to Hank Durham Jim Jarratt and Tom Brightman at a Court of Honor at First Methodist Church on Monday night October 10. Scout master Gilmore Durham and assistant Whit Jarratt led the ceremony with Bob Slaughter Eastland Scout Executive in charge.
The United Fund Drive in Comanche nears its goal with about $5,000 of $7,000 raised. Chairman Ben Evridge praises Charlotte McKinie and volunteers for strong donor outreach. The drive consolidates eight former campaigns including Boy Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, Red Cross, Salvation Army, and others.

Walter Hill was injured Tuesday when an exposed wire struck him and his horse between his home and barn. The live line knocked Hill unconscious and pinned both him and the horse until he freed the animal and crawled to his pickup. He drove toward town but blackout forced him to stop at Central Texas Fertilizer, where his horn brought help before he collapsed again.
Senator Robert C. Byrd of West Virginia spoke at a district courtroom event in support of Democratic presidential candidates. He played the fiddle, sang Old Joe Clark, and highlighted his backing for Lyndon B. Johnson, urging volunteers to donate to the United Fund and noting Johnson’s broad esteem nationally.
Halloween Carnival activities fill the gym on October 29 as eight girls represent their classes. Senior candidate Barbara Hicks leads with escort Colin Reed while senior duchess Anthony supports Gail the drum major and Danny Sanford. Junior candidate Phyllis Swindle and escort Billy Evans, duchess Nancy Caraway with escort Jimmy Wilkerson, sophomores Lou and Sue Albin with escorts Jerry Norris and Jim Jarratt, and Letha with Donald Fiest complete the lineup.
The Comanche Indians travel to Granbury for an 8-AA district game Friday night. Comanche won in district standings despite a 20-20 tie with Hamilton as Granbury hopes for a strong home performance despite late season injuries. Jerry Carswell’s season loss hurts Granbury but Comanche’s Joe Todd and guards Jackson Bowers and Red Swindle are healthier for the clash.
