Work started Thursday on machinery installation at the Fort Worth Poultry and Egg Company plant in the Ice Plant buildings. The modern plant will serve the territory for eight months, concentrating all turkeys and poultry for dressing at the Comanche plant. Management plans to handle about 40 cars this season and have it ready shortly after November 1.
Elizabeth Temple of the Frisco R R Poultry Department will lead a series of turkey meetings across Comanche county the week of October 29 to November 3. Topics include breeding stock selection disease control and proper feeding for market. Attendees will hear how Missouri turkey raisers succeeded despite serious problems.
Public Weigher C. F. Denny reports peanuts are weighed per car daily. About 24 cars had been weighed by Thursday noon, reflecting ongoing standard procedure at the weigh station.
A mass meeting of Democrats is set for Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Comanche County courthouse. R. L. Lane, chairman, urges all genuine Democrats to attend and hear speakers including Judge R. A. Luker and J. R. Eanes discuss party issues and nominees for all offices.
Beattie Public School superintendent B Ray McCorkle was selected as Director General of the Comanche County Interscholastic League at a county institute business session last Thursday. Other officers include George Burgs as Director of Athletics, D M Russell as Director of Declamation, J B Cooper as Director of Debate, and Miss Addie Welch as Director of Essay Writing.
The Comanche Indians lost to the German Panthers on the last play when Creager, a substitute, caught a pass from Leazer and ran half the field for the lone score. The Indians had dominated most of the game but failed to capitalize as Gorman advanced late to the Indians’ yard line before the decisive drive ended in defeat.

Fd Ligon received from Mason and Kimble counties this week four hundred and fifty steer calves. These were very select Hereford cattle and among the choicest bunches shipped into the county recently. Ligon sold 355 two year old steers to Martin at Grandbury for November 15 delivery. The sale is expected among the largest in recent months with futures likely above thirty thousand dollars at delivery.
Messrs W B Carroll and Tra Gerganess completed a deal to lease the rest of the lot housing their filling station for use as free parking space. The last old wooden building will be removed soon, improving street appearance and adding parking.
Absentee voting begins today and runs through November 8 for the general election. County Clerk Clyde Doan notes ballots are available from the County Clerk with the same voting method as the primaries. In July 110 absentee votes were cast and slightly more in August.
A new milk route from Newburg to the Hico Cold Storage Co. began Friday, Oct. 19, with over 100 gallons collected. Gus Burks drives the route, departing Newburg at 6 a.m. and arriving at the plant by 8:30 a.m. Milk sells for 18 to 28 cents per gallon based on butter fat tests, and Burks predicts daily receipts will exceed 200 gallons next week with fourteen customers listed for Monday.
Comanche Indians meet Stephenville Yellow Jackets in a key conference game at 4 p.m. today. After a 6 0 defeat at Gorman last Friday both teams seek a win to stay in the race, with Stephenville relying on a heavier, passing style to lift them at home.
Supporters of Democratic nominees outlined an intensive county campaign in the District Court room after a Brownwood address by Hon. C L McCartney. Durham Peean Co seeks local residents for home pecan picking trials. Workers will receive cracked pecans delivered to them and later shelled nuts collected. Earn a small spending income by participating in the plan.
Lewis Bowera now heads the Floral Park Filling Station at the junction of the De Leon and Dublin highways near Bart Johnsons, replacing the previous manager.
Ginned at three Comanche gins Thursday at noon 2 197 bales. The Comanche Cotton yard receipts at the same hour reached 2 927, up from 2 744 on the same date last year.
A county wide Hoover rally will be held in Comanche at the courthouse Monday evening November 5 at 7 30. J M Haynes county chairman urges representatives from every voting box to attend and help organize the Hoover vote for the election the next day. Plans include securing a speaker of state and national recognition for the occasion.
Peerless Cream and Produce Company will open in the rear of Bishop's Confectionery with Bob Cox as manager. The firm will operate wholesale and retail, handling cream milk ice butter ice cream and produce. Cox is known in Comanche from his work with Sunbeam Creamery at Brownwood.
Following the Teachers Institute last Friday, most rural schools began their year on Monday. Opened Oct. 22 with staff include Indian Mountain Ernest L. Curl and Ozelle Pulley Energy L D Allison and Mildred Adcock Hazel Dell K F Cunningham and Grace Tate Duster J W Wallace Oliver Springs W C Jenkins and Essie Perry Beatrice Cheatham Vandyke J B Layne.
The grand jury reports eight days of session in Comanche County Texas. It examined 118 witnesses and returned 22 indictments: 9 felonies and 12 misdemeanors. Jail inspection praised the facility and inmate treatment as well kept and humane.
Hon. Thomas L. Blanton will address residents of Comanche on Saturday November 3 at 2 p m. The event aims to rally support for the Democratic presidential and vice presidential nominees.
Judge Joe Bidson excused all jurors summoned for the week due to farmers being busy with crops. They are summoned again for Monday Nov. 13. Judge Eidson also excuses those summoned for Oct. 29 and reschedules them to Monday Nov. 19.
Oscar Callaway received from A T Camber of Wakeman Ohio a prime yearling De Laine buck noted for prize winning lineage in Ohio fairs. The buck arrived in Brownwood and Callaway is set to receive fifty registered De Laine offspring this week with twenty going to B E Anthony and twenty to Callaway.
County Agent Barton announces a Terracing School to be held November 8 on G A Bruton farm one mile south of Comanche. Teachers and officials will lead over 200 attendees from multiple districts. participants from area schools urged to bring lunch as morning focuses on instruction and afternoon on demonstrations.
