Comanche County braces for record general election turnout

Leaders from both parties forecast the biggest general election vote in Comanche county history with turnout possibly rivaling 1924 and 1928 figures. Polls open Tuesday at 8 am and close at 7 pm at designated boxes near the County Clerk office and the Slider and Lacy building west of the Whippet Station.

Three Comanche County Men Charged in U.S. Liquor Case

Three Comanche county citizens were charged in U.S. District Court at Fort Worth with liquor law violations. Judge James C. Wilson set November 5 for Tom Douglass’s hearing. Meyers and Sutton have trial dates not yet fixed. Douglass was arrested June 26 in Comanche. Meyers August 21. Sutton October 6.

Fatal Horse Kicks 6-Year-Old Hollis Williford

Hollis Williford, six, of Mercer Gap, is fatally injured when a horse kicks him in the chest while turning out livestock. J B All corn reports several livestock deals closed in the past week and through this week. Ed Dudley and Dudley Alridge bought 300 two year old calves from Ed Ligon and moved them to their ranch near Democrat. J T McClosky and Mayor J T Thurmond of Ranger bought 200 yearling ewes from Ed Ligon. Jack R Stephens purchased 171 De Laine ewes from Roy Bryan of Goldthwaite and pastured them near Comanche. Mrs J H Bryson and Son bought 150 Hereford mixed calves from Bourn Brothers of Brooksmith and moved them to their ranch near Brysonville. J B Alborn bought 8 registered Ohio DeLaine ewes from John Brandon of Lampasas. Henry Gore bought 54 DeLaine ewes from John Williams of Energy and moved them to the Smoot pasture south of Comanche.

Former citizen charged with Haskell murder

Bill Fritts a 35 year old former Comanche county resident is jailed in Riverside charged with the murder of D W Hamilton and his son Farle at their home near Haskell Wednesday October 24 An indictment for murder was returned and trial set for Friday with a special venue of 100 Ordered Fritts described two days and nights hiding in cotton fields near Judd He claimed three companions accompanied him to the Hamilton home but he will not identify them He said he was warned by possemen and would have surrendered to no other officer He says he did not fire the shots and was accompanied by three men whose identities he refuses to disclose He had been indicted in liquor and theft cases dating back to 1920 and recently six indictments were returned He was told by Mrs Dudley Hamilton that her husband and son feared him and that he had boasted of having only one bad witness left.
