Mrs. Harry Bickers, a former Tulsa police officer and Texas deputy, visits as revival speaker. Pastor McCullough notes Bickers’s engaging style as he begins preaching on Bible subjects at the Assembly near Austin Street.

The Comanche High School Halloween Carnival will be held next Thursday night October 31 in the high gym. Students from all grades compete for the Halloween Queen with finalists listed for Seniors Wanda Hilliard Juniors Jane Matthews Sophomores Linda Flannagan Freshman Janice Isham. The event includes booths games cake walks and foods. A public hearing on Farm Market Road No 588 Duster to Gorman will be held November 7 at 2 pm at the Duster Store regarding Gorman Duster road work and federal highway funding rules.
After about eight days of work the Comanche High School building renovation is close to finishing. Contractor KA Sparks-Hemito reports the south wall teardown and reconstruction will wrap by weekend, with total project costs around 54000 plus 20000 for new equipment including 260 desks 600 auditorium seats and updated science labs and lockers. Superintendent Harper says an open house will be held soon to showcase the improvements to residents.
Rev Guy Self of Comanche County Baptist will guest preach at 11 oclock service. Sunday school at 10 with Mrs S A Moore superintendent. Training Union at 7 with 8 oclock sermon by Rev J L Woolsey. Prayer meeting led by Rev K W Coleman.
Cha:ley Lassetter aged 77 died September 27 at his Oceanside California home. Former Comanche resident and a retired Standard Oil Company employee, he is survived by his wife Ad die Lassetter, two sisters Nora Malleson and Nettie Bliss, and a brother Gerald Lassettter. He lived at 275 Walsh St. in Oceanside.
Comanche public schools shut down as a flu epidemic spreads through the district. Officials urged students and staff to stay home, with guidance on sanitation and containment measures issued by the school board.
Funeral rites for Emmet Matthew Clark of Fort Worth will be held Friday afternoon October 25 at 2 o clock in Comanche Funeral Home Chapel. Rev Marion Gaines will officiate with burial in Unknown Cemetery in Comanche. Clark, son of the late Bob Clark, was reared in Comanche County and is a brother of Finis Skinny Clark. He died Tuesday in Fort Worth and is survived by his widow and several children.
Miss Maude Walling of Comanche died in a Dallas hospital after years of illness. Survived by brothers Tom, Lee, and Will Walling and sisters Mrs. Ellington of Hillsboro and Mrs. Sweatman of Waco. Funeral held at St Matthew's Cathedral on October 14 with relatives attending.
Davis and Ray Construction Co. of Abilene was named low bidder on Comanche High School Vocational Agriculture building with a bid of 45 417. Eight bids were opened last Saturday and the project will start soon. The 60 by 94 foot white brick structure adds two classrooms and a shop, on the current site.
Bill Parker has been promoted from assistant Sunday School superintendent to superintendent at First Methodist Church. He succeeds E. Paul Jeanes, who has led the role for about ten years. In Comanche Henry Gregory and Palmer, now with The Texas Power and Light Company in Brownwood, returned briefly to assist with local meter readings. Palmer notes Brownwood work is in the accounting department and both men miss Comanche.
The lu epidemic closed Comanche’s schools and sidelined nearly 200 students, forcing the 8 AA schedule cancellations. Nineteen Hamilton Indians fell ill including probable starters, leading to a forfeited game against Hamilton. Dublin also suffered an 8 AA contest cancellation with Dublin forfeiting to Granbury. Hamilton, ranked 7th in 2-A, has lost six of seven this season after a 32-19 upset by the Bulldogs last year.
The Newburg Quilting Club met October 2 at the Community Center with Mrs. John Burton as hostess. Members read minutes and conducted business while enjoying quilting. The roll call sang The Old Rugged Cross as the club song. Attendees included Mrs. John Burton Reba Burton Ruby Spencer Pearl Burton Alice Moore Julia Mills Anna Belle Seay Eva Lane Tinie Pate Xerle Cox Margaret Pogue Lee Mary Lee and Ruby Henson.
William E. Clemons local Ford dealer married Mary Chapman Russell in Ardmore Oklahoma on Saturday October 19. Rev E W Busch of First Methodist Church Ardmore officiated at the church parsonage. The couple will reside at 105 West Walcott after the ceremony.
Mrs. Mark Lambert and children Mike and Marla of Norman Oklahoma and Mrs. Minnie Jones of Lexington Oklahoma visited Mr. and Mrs. John Campbell and family last week.

An influenza outbreak forces Gustine and Comanche schools to close for the week. About 190 Comanche students are absent, with 125 ill Monday, and Gustine reports around 50 percent absenteeism. Officials note the worst is over and rest with fluids and simple meds aids recovery. Local doctor says no fatalities or Asian flu cases confirmed.
Melvin Harkins a local barber was among three fans who correctly predicted most games in The Chief weekly grid contest. He fore saw a 20 0 Bearcats over the Indians though the actual score was 33 0. Runner ups missed several picks. First prize 5 dollars and other prizes awarded. many contestants misjudged 8 of 10 games.
Cisco residents Mr and Mrs Davis Williams visited Sunday in Cisco to see her brothers C C Webb and CC L Webb and their families.
