Comanche residents may tour the multi million dollar Upper Leon River Municipal Water District plant at Lake Proctor Sunday Oct 19 from 1 9 to 5 00. The district serves Comanche De Leon Dublin Gorman and Hamilton with filtered water and features a 10 million gallon daily capacity and extensive pipeline network.

Waldrep Boy's Implement Co Opens Massey Ferguson Dealership

Benny Waldrep formerly of Dallas buys Farm and Ranch Supply from W D Bryson and now runs the Waldrep Implement Co a Massey Ferguson dealership. He is a Lamfasas High School graduate and 1958 Texas A&M alum. He and wife Virginia have three children Rebecca Raymond Arthur and James Ronald and reside on a farm near Comenche on the Gustine Highway as Baptist Church members.

Plumlee Wins Comanche Chief Football Contest

Jim Plumlee claimed first prize of 5.00 in the weekly Comanche Chief football contest after missing only one of fifteen games. Stanton Reese earned second, Donnie Hicks third, with two others close behind. Honorable mention went to ten contestants with only three misses. This Friday night features a homecoming game with queen coronations and festivities.

FFA Classes Elect Sweetheart Candidates at Comanche High

Comanche High School’s four Vocational Agriculture classes in the FFA chapter chose candidates for the local sweetheart race. Freshmen pick Sandi Sudderth, Vee/Auxiliary elect Leslie Hicks, Juniors nominate Nena Gore seeking a second term, Seniors select Patsy Boerner who moved from Comfort. The event funds the Parent and Son Banquet next spring, with one penny per vote and the class raising the most money winning the title.

Open Court To Rule on Stone Tower Near De Leon

The De Leon Chamber of Commerce and Comanche County Historical Committee plan a Citizens Open Court at De Leon City Hall on Saturday October 25 at 2 30 PM. A jury will be drawn from citizens to hear six theories on the Stone Tower origin and purpose and decide its meaning for a memorial plaque at the site later.

Kew Peanut Producers Board Set After 84.2 Percent Vote

Texas peanut growers approved a state commodity check off referendum by 84.2 percent. The ballot canvass was certified by Ross Wilson of the Southwestern Peanut Growers Association and forwarded to Agriculture Commissioner John C. White. Nine growers were elected to the new Texas Peanut Producers Board to set program goals and manage funds, with officers to be chosen at the first meeting.
