Buster McDonald reports a new irrigation well on his place east of Comanche on the Gustine Highway. The 130 foot well with 82 foot pump, 80 gallons per minute, feeds 75 acres via sprinkler system for winter grazing, costing about 4500 dollars plus 200 for reservoir.

Absentee Vote Here Due To Set New Mark

One hundred ten Comanche County residents had voted or applied for absentee ballots as of Wednesday for the November 4 general election. County Clerk Roy Dabney said absentee voting could set an all time high, noting many ballots are going to servicemen. Voting opened October 15 and continues through October 31.

The Sidney Hallowe'en Carnival will be held next Friday night October 31 at the Sidney school. Superintendent Joseph M. Sartor says no admission will be charged and booths will be ready to add to the fun for young and old. The event has been a popular school activity for several years.

West Ward PTA Fathers Night program draws 125

The West Ward PTA held an October fathers night with about 125 attendees. Dan Martin led the program, open house in classrooms, and coffee and cookies in the lunchroom. Prizes went to Miss Edna Harris and Mrs John Hathcock for bringing the most parents.

Artie Taber Injured in Pickup Collision With Train

Comanche County dairyman Artie Taber was injured last Wednesday night October 15 when his pickup hit a Santa Fe train at the railroad crossing four blocks south of the square on South Austin. He suffered a crushed knee cap and facial and elbow lacerations and remains hospitalized at Blackwood Hospital with his right leg in a plaster. The wreck left his 1950 Chevrolet pickup badly damaged.

Yack H. Hickman Dies in Dallas at 70

Yack H. Hickman 70 retired farmer and former Comanche County resident died October 18 at Parkland Hospital Dallas. Funeral services were held at Comanche Funeral Home with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. He was a member of a Dallas Pentecostal Church. Survived by wife Fannie Bishop Warren and two daughters with local connections.
