The Comanche Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce honored J. C. Wilkerson Sr. publisher of The Comanche Chief with a Certificate of Appreciation at a testimonial dinner in the high school lunchroom. Fort Worth Fat Stock Show author Boyce House spoke. E F Jones presided as master of ceremonies.
The October term grand jury of Comanche County reports three days of session, 41 witnesses examined, and six true bills returned to the district court. They commend the court’s charge, thank the district and county attorneys, and request adjournment subject to the judge’s call. Foreman Keith Lane signs the report.
Rev. Henry A. Chambers, 38, pastor of Anson Texas First Baptist, will preach at Comanche First Baptist on Sunday October 19 in view of a call. He has led the Anson church seven years and is highly regarded by the pulpit committee. All members urged to attend both services.
Comanche high school will host Coleman High School here next Thursday night October 23 at Indian Memorial Stadium. The Comanche squad has two wins and one loss this season after beating Cisco 19-0 and Stephenville 18-0, but losing 26-0 to their lanket team.
Tickets for the Coleman Bluecats game against Comanche are on sale at local cafes and drug stores for Friday night October 17. Prices are 90 cents for adults and 30 cents for children.
Mrs Joe Tupin announces the United Council of Church Women in Comanche will observe United Nations Day with a program at First Methodist Church on Friday morning October 24 from 10 to 11. All Comanche County women are urged to attend and everyone is asked to offer a prayer for peace between 10 and 11 a m.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Proctor Baptist Church for Mrs Minnie John Wilson with interment in the local cemetery. She died in Dallas Wednesday at the home of her son Coke, with whom she had been visiting for a month.
Charley Marshall announces the Dawn to Dusk fund drive for the Comanche Trail Council of the Boy Scouts with an Early Bird Breakfast on October 31 at 7 a.m. James Slider leads about 70 volunteers who will each seek five donations. W. S. Brewer coordinates advance gifts to target major donors before the breakfast. Funds support eight county Scouting efforts and Camp Billy Gibbons in San Saba County and Troop 47 attendances.

A petit jury will be used next week as the criminal docket is taken up Monday morning. Only six indictments were returned by the grand jury, and the list of jurors includes H B Cox Dublin Sam Gilbreath W N Wood B J Pyburn George H Loudermilk Herbert Cunningham Maurice L Nance and many others from Comanche Gustine Sidney May Rising Star Blanket and surrounding areas. The pool features residents listed with routes and towns in Comanche County and nearby communities.
Sam Rayburn of Bonham Speaker of the National House of Representatives and Texas Democratic leader will address at Dublin High School gymnasium Tuesday night October 21 at 7 30 o clock. He will speak for the Stevenson Sparkman ticket for president and vice president.
Radar man third class Kenneth H Johnston, son of Mr and Mrs William H Johnston of Comanche Texas and husband of Mrs Kenneth H Johnston of Los Angeles California, recently arrived in Long Beach aboard the heavy cruiser USS Bremerton after a Far East tour. Bremerton fired 12000 rounds destroying 268 bunkers 44 mortar positions 4 large supply dumps and 5 large fuel depots. She operated from front lines near Korea's northern boundary.
Mr and Mrs Ted Masters of Snyder announce the birth of a daughter Kathy Ann on Thursday October 9 at Snyder hospital The baby is granddaughter of Mr and Mrs W C Langley Sidney Star Route and Mrs Belle Masters Comanche The mother and daughter have returned to their home at 1907 Ave O Snyder Texas
Revival services begin Saturday evening at First Free Will Baptist Church Comanche at 7 00 with services at 10 a m and 7 00 p m for a week or longer Rev Tidwell of Dallas preaches all are invited to attend for a warm Christian welcome.
Funeral services for Mrs. W. P. St. Clair will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in Comanche with Rev. Raymond M. Burton presiding. Burial follows in De Leon Cemetery. Mrs. St. Clair, wife of the county Justice of the Peace and former sheriff, died Wednesday night in a Fort Worth hospital.
Mr and Mrs Roy D Adams and Rickey and Billie returned to their home here last Wednesday from Grapeland where Mr Adams had been working in the peanut harvest. Adams reports peanuts there are averaging about 22 bushels per acre.
Comanche Indians travel to Coleman Friday night for a 6 o'clock kickoff in the 1952 non district finale. Coleman, led by coach P T Galiga, is undefeated and favored to upset Comanche despite past setbacks. Starter Lloyd Biges returns with a facial injury masked, as both teams stage a hard hitting battle with key players listed for both squads.
Herbert L. Brown, 9, Comanche County insurance agent and longtime Mercer Gap resident, died at home Friday afternoon after a stroke. Funeral services were held at Mercer Gap Baptist Church with Rev. Holmes officiating and burial in Mercer Gap Cemetery. Survived by mother Hester Simmons Brown, sister Mrs. Walter Gray, sister Mrs. Naomi Perry, and other relatives.
