The Ritz Theatre hosts a Junior Beauty Review Friday October 28 featuring about twenty five contestants aged two to eight judged on personality with no costumes or rehearsals. Twenty five entrants from local firms include Renfro's Market Doris Lee Renfro Chief Dry Cleaners Percy Jean Howard Magnolia Gas Bobbie Nell Dellis Texas Power and Light Adelia Jean Satterfield City Bakery Ellen Joy Powell and others. The winner receives a diamond ring.
Mrs Charles Moore and daughter of Texan spent the weekend in Comanche with Mr and Mrs C M Moore, the latter being her parents in Comanche.
Mrs Lane Moreland and daughter Sheela Vance of Tohoka are visiting Mr and Mrs J E Miller.
District Judge Joe Eidson announced that the Pettit jury summoned for Monday November 2 need not appear for regular service. The panel will be recalled for service on Monday November 23, and the notice does not apply to the special venue scheduled for November 2.
Gustine to establish a pecan school with W S Price and O B Rose leading planning meetings. County Agent J A Barton notes sessions will occur weekly or biweekly at the school building and will involve teachers from the State Department of Agriculture John Tarleton and A and M College cooperating with Price and Rose.
Forty four bales of cotton arrived at the Comanche Cotton Yard on Wednesday, lifting the season total to 21095 compared with about 1300 bales for last season. Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Elkins spent the weekend in Fort Worth with Mrs. Elkins remaining to visit Mrs. Lucy Kirk. Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Burks and children visited Dublin on Sunday with their son A. P. Burks.
Cotton topped 6.40 a bale in Comanche Tuesday up from 4.40 three weeks earlier, boosting farmer earnings by 500 to 750 dollars daily as 50 to 75 bales were marketed. Peanuts brought 0.43 rise in Comanche, near season-opening levels but 10 cents above the prior low. Gustine gins processed 645 bales last Friday, with an 800-bale season forecast. Gustine shipped three cars of peanuts Friday and expects ten cars total, noting slightly lower yield but better quality than last year.
C M Caraway herd of Comyn won top honors as Goldie Lass a Shorthorn cow carried off first prize and Senior Grand Champion at the Dallas Fair Shorthorn Show. Other Caraway cattle winning firsts included Goldie 35th Pride of Golden Oak and Dreadnaught Victor. additional placements went to Get of Sire Clara Ridney and Dreadnaucht Radium. County Agent J A Barton reported after returning from the 4 H encampment with five club boys.
About 4,000 fish were added to Lake Eanes on Wednesday including 1,500 bass 1,000 evogeled eyed perch 1,000 beam and nearly 200 channel cat. The stock came from the State Hatchery at Cisco and a West Texas stream.
The Comanche Band will perform on the Court House Lawn at 8 50 p m Sunday according to Director Harmon Howard Mrs Ruth Laughlin and child ren and Joe Tupin spent Sunday at the Dallas Fair
The Paul McCarty murder case is set for Monday November 2 with an avenue of 100 men summoned for jury selection. Allen and Allen of Hamilton defend McCarty, District Attorney Tom Robinson prosecutes. McCarty, in Hamilton jail since September 15 for allegedly shooting his father L. P. McCarty, is to stand trial at nine in the morning. A second venire was selected and 60 more names appear on the list. The case arose after a loan dispute tied to a lien on the farm. Multiple local residents listed as potential jurors are named.
