De Leon High School football visits Hamilton High School tonight in a conference clash. Both teams sit tied in standings at 500 percent, each having beaten Hico while De Leon was defeated by Desdemona and Hamilton lost to Comanche.

Pettit School to Build New Frame Building

The Pettit School will replace its fire-damaged building with a new $4,000 frame structure. Lucious Gleaton of Gustine draws plans for a three room facility with a home economics lab and an auditorium option. Insurance funds will finance the project. no bonds will be issued.

New Uniforms Ordered For The Comanche Band

The Comanche High School Band will receive 56 complete outfits funded by a $100 donation from the Comanche Lions Club and matching contributions from the school board and band members. Local business people were collecting donations to cover the remaining balance as uniforms in black and gold are ordered this week.

McMurry known as Little S M U visits Howard Payne Stadium in Brownwood to face the Yellow Jackets. Howard Payne leads the Texas Conference and must win to stay ahead of the undefeated Southwestern.

W. M. Humphrey Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Humphrey, of Gustine, was appointed assistant manager of the Howard Payne Yellow Jacket football squad, with promotion to manager for three years. He is a Howard Payne freshman majoring in science and plans to study at A. & M. College after graduation to pursue vocational agriculture teaching.

Beattie Plans New School Gymnasium Vote Ahead

Beattie voters will decide on issuing 1500 in bonds for a new Beattie school gymnasium. The district already has about 1000 on hand to supplement the fund. The frame building is expected to be finished before the basketball season ends, according to the Beattie school board.

Rev. C. C. Klingman resigns from First Christian Church Taylor Texas to lead Christian Churches in Hamilton and Comanche He will reside in Hamilton His prior service includes four and a half years at Central Christian Church Comanche and teaching English at Comanche High School from 1919 to 1924 He begins with the first Sunday in December preaching the second Sunday thereafter.

Fire Destroys Barn on Vineyard Farm at Soda Springs

A barn on I. M. Vineyard's vineyard farm in Soda Springs burned at eight Monday morning, destroying about 150 bales of hay, two tons of maize, and 300 bushels of fine corn. About 100 bushels of corn were saved. total loss estimated at $400 with no insurance. The fire origin remains unknown as Mrs. Gray alerted neighbors who formed a bucket brigade to save the remaining corn.

In a hard fought opener the Comanche Indians edged Hamilton Bulldogs 6 to 0 on Comanche field. Carnes scored on a three yard run in the second quarter as Comanche dominated with 12 first downs to Hamilton’s four and played the game without substitutions or passes.

Comanche High School Indians host Desdemona High School Panthers tonight in a conference clash. Desdemona has shown mixed form, losing 40 0 to Dublin three weeks ago and 20 0 to German last Friday, but could mount a challenge if Indians falter. Coach Glenn Frazier may start the same lineup that beat Hamilton, with reserves possible if a early lead grows. Last season Parker’s pushed the Indians hard in a close game.

Organize Dramatic Club At Van Dyke

A dramatic club was organized at the Van Dyke school house Friday night. Prof. L. B. McAnally was elected president, Miss Marguerite Grigsby secretary, and Miss Jayne Hammons treasurer. The club will meet monthly and the next meeting is scheduled for Friday night November 19.

Gustine High School continued its drive for the Class C football championship Friday afternoon when the Tigers defeated Brookesmith at Gustine 40 to 6. The line plunging of Buffalo Clements starred for Gustine as Brookesmith struck back after Gustine’s fabled start, then the visitors tried to pass.

District Judge Cross Opens Grand Jury in Stock Theft Case

Judge Bates Cross in his district court charge Monday urged stronger controls to curb livestock theft in Comanche Hamilton Coryell counties. He noted driving while intoxicated as a crime and praised the area's overall lawfulness while calling for enforcement of all laws.
