Explosion Burns Sam Gossett in Coe County Incident
Sam Gossett aged 29 of Coe County was severely burned Wednesday when a gasoline torch ignited vapors at his father's Beattie Road home. He was rushed to a German hospital with facial burns and possible eye injuries.

Bill Creed First To Pay 1937 County and State Taxes
Bill Creed of Sipe Springs paid the 1937 state and county taxes on October 7, the first day the office welcomed payments. Tax Assessor-Collector Mrs. E R Armstrong noted the county and state tax period began October 1 but the state had not yet approved the county tax roll. J C Gaddy of Comanche issued the first 1937 poll tax receipt.

Cowan Hurt In Accident Here
John R. Cowan was seriously injured when his car ran over him after being hand cranked from in front of his garage. The vehicle in low gear dragged him through the garage and tore the rear wall before stopping. His son Joseph helped lift him free and he received treatment locally then was moved to Gorman for further care.

Three Fined On Liquor Charges In County Court
Three men were convicted in County Court on illegal possession of intoxicating liquor. Jim Sanford of Comanche pled guilty after jury selection. fined about 123 dollars with costs. W B Ash and W W Walker of De Leon were found guilty by jury, with total costs around 150 dollars each. All had prior liquor-law convictions. F O Jaye represented the defendants and challenged local option law validity. Some jurors reportedly favored a 250 dollar fine.

City Sets Comanche Tax at 1.45 and Bond Plan
The 1937 Comanche city tax rate is 1.45 with 30 cents for the general fund 30 cents for streets and 85 cents for the bond issue. Comanche bonds total about 170000 net with over 100000 in water bonds including Lake Banes. Bonded indebtedness has declined by 40000 in six years though a 5000 vote for City Hall and Fire Station reduces the net crease to 35000. New bonds await sale around contract let date mid January. Huddleston notes bid interest locally and AG approval obtained but sale pending bid process.

Dr. C. W. Ory Dies At Home In Comanche County
Dr. C. W. Ory 64 well known physician of Comanche and Comanche County died at his home after several weeks of illness. Funeral services were held at the residence with Rev. C. C. Klingman officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery with Masonic Lodge auspices. He is survived by son Dr. L. Kenneth Ory and daughter Mrs Coleman Gay of Austin.

Sheriff Wid Spivey of Comanche reports two youths arrested for stealing 410 pounds of seed cotton from Carl Hall’s wagon in a field near Creamer. The cotton traced to Hamilton where it was sold. Charges filed in Erath County and in Meridian with R H Cloud and Ed Putty named.

Charles Rice of Brownwood and his wife from Monahans endured a habeas corpus trial in a special District Court session led by Judge Bates Cross. Each was released on $1000 bond awaiting grand jury action. Charges allegedly relate to a burglary at the C. M. Albin and Walter Barrett wool and mohair warehouse years ago.
