Virgil Chaffin resigns as Comanche Schools superintendent effective December 1 1955 to become Belton Public Schools business manager. He led rapid district growth including new buses, lunchrooms, accreditation, increased staff and enrollment, and district expansion from 16 to near 300 square miles.
Comanche travels to Ballinger for the 7-AA opener as the undefeated Bearcats host the Indians. Ballinger owns a 3-0-1 record, while Comanche sits 2-2-1, with tickets $1.25 at the Chamber of Commerce. The Bearcats boast Holloway Patton and Stokes targets while Comanche counters with Hicks at quarterback and a developing offense.
The Comanche area launches its annual Boy Scout fund drive with a Tuesday October 25 breakfast at West Ward School lunchroom. Pat Cagle chairs the drive committee and anticipates about 100 attendees. Rev J W Whitefield district superintendent will speak on the program’s importance and early advance contributions run strong.
A Seniors event near Hathcock's Appliance Company on the north side of the square offers coffee cold drinks cake and rummage this Saturday morning. Sponsors Miss Hattie Mrs Palmer Mr Scott and Mr Harmon guide setup while Suzanne Marshall duchess candidate with escort Sammy Marshall, and Quay Williams duchess with escort Scotty Lockridge attend.
The Comanche Junior Chamber of Commerce plans a two day Turkey Shoot on Friday and Saturday November 11 and 12 starting at 10 a.m. at the B L Gore place one mile west of Comanche past the rodeo grounds. Proceeds go to Jaycees for street marking improvements.
Chief representatives visited Newburg Uranium Centers and found sitters from seven states, including Texas. Visitors from Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee, Oklahoma and New Mexico outnumbered Texans. Pecos and Hereford were among Texas locations represented. Jesse Reese said his center averages 79 to 105 daily and that dirt from his ranch is not for sale.
Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Chambers have been spending the past two weeks with their son-in-law and his family, sharing time together during the stay. The note mentions hospitality and extended visits among relatives.
Father John Salberg pastor of St Matthew's Church will serve as curate to Father James De Wolfe at All Saints Episcopal Church Fort Worth located at 5001 Crestline Drive West Fort Worth. All Saints founded about ten years ago and now counts about 1400 members with a parochial day school of 115 students and 15 faculty. The Salbergs will move from Comanche to 4917 Lafayette Street Fort Worth on November 15 and begin duties soon after.
Mr and Mrs Aubrey Stuckey visited relatives over the weekend in Fort Worth and Dallas enjoying family time and local circles.
