Interest Up Ks Drilling Gets Started

The Callaway Magness Company shallow test on the White lease spudded in at 7 oclock Saturday evening. Keen interest follows its potential as prior showings generate excitement in the oil field. Bryson wells by Amorado Petroleum completed one near the schoolhouse at 840 feet and the Logan's Gap well halted at 620 feet while logs are reviewed before further drilling.

New Postmaster Named At Lamkin

Miss Jamnita Arnett has been appointed acting postmaster at Lamkin and has taken charge of the office, succeeding Dock Miller who led the office for nearly 20 years. Six took the civil service examination for permanent postmaster among whom was Miss Arnett. No report from the examination has yet been made.

Howard Directs Band at De Leon

Stolen cotton ginned and sold near Comanche

Two men driving a seed cotton wagon in a 1926 Chevrolet delivered cotton to Rauhut's Gin in Comanche claiming it came from Tom Russell's farm ten miles north. They sold two round bales weighing 612 pounds plus seed to Rauhut, then stopped at HiWay Garage for fuel and oil and headed toward Eastland. J Jacobs of Tolar and Hood County Sheriff later identified the wagon as Jacobs's stolen wagon from a field north of Tolar. Rauhut was paid for the cotton and seed.

Duster Consolidated School Opens Monday

Duster Consolidated School will open on Monday October 24 with exercises at 9 o clock. W L Boling formerly of Sidney School is principal assisted by Earl Lightfoot Mrs Robbie Burnette Miss Dora Faye McPhail Miss Myrtle Gregory Miss Hope Duke and Miss Amoret Tunnell. First State Bank Buys First National Bank in Comanche

The First State Bank purchased the First National Bank and took over its assets and records Friday. Former National Bank employees joined the new consolidated institution led by E. E. Anthony. The deal involves about half a million dollars in assets and strengthens Comanche's banking capacity.

Lamkin Energy and Downing Community Meetings

After two weeks of planning Lamkin hosts a Friday night community gathering at the school auditorium. Officials from the Comanche Lions Club and local authorities will join a varied program, with refreshments, to reorganize the Community Club and outline fall and winter plans including health welfare roads agriculture and social activities. A Lamkin exhibit for the next Comanche County Farmers Fair is also discussed.

Cotton Receipts Ahead of 1926 Cotton Totals Rise in Comanche County

Farmers forecast a smaller crop, but Comanche County cotton receipts exceed last year. By October 1, 1927 ginning reached 3,166 bales here vs 2,902 last year, with tote receipts at the Comanche yard at 2,599 to date, and local gins up 2,008 bales. Peanut shipments climb as price hits $1.00, about one car daily arriving.

Citizens of Hasse cooperate with authorities after two burglaries in under a week. Suspects questioned. no arrests yet. First break in at a school on Thursday night with tools stolen. Saturday night raid on M. J. Salter’s garage then post office items. Monday night Gustine Mercantile Company hit for $1,500 in merchandise including coats suits and shoes.

Grammar School Program Tonight At Local Auditorium

A program of readings, playlets and music by students will be held at the Grammar School auditorium at 8 PM. Principal W D Jenkins invites the public to attend. admission is free. Also noted are Halloween goods at Krest Variety Store and Mrs M H Parrish of Carbondale visiting her parents.

Indians Scalp Stephenville in Race for Championship

Comanche High School Indians beat Stephenville 27 to 6 on their home grid to stay in the race for district football honors. Led by Captain Pulliane and the Magness brothers, the offense moved with end runs and strong line plunges while the defense limited Stephenville to fourteen downs. The opening drive by Stephenville threatened early but ended at the Comanche 20 yard line, after which the Indians controlled the game. The Comanche Pep Squad cheered wildly, boosting the home team as the Indians maintained their lead into the final minutes.
