Calvin Holcomb resigns as county agent here and will move to Goldthwaite to take a similar post in Mills County. He follows Doc Rhummann who is on leave from his army duty. it is not announced who will fill the local agent position until Rhummann returns.

At a Monday night meeting the Board of Stewards of the First Methodist Church voted unanimously to request Rev. R. B Hooper return as pastor for another year. Hooper came two years ago from Fort Worth where he served as superintendent of the Methodist Home.

Comanche County residents donate to the War Chest Drive but the county total falls short. County Chairman Wayne Evridge urges all community chairs to push this week while Porter Franks notes $1800 raised by Thursday noon and incomplete canvassing in City Schools and the South Side. Warns Against Poison Grass After Frost

Frost season raises danger of two poisonous plants in pastures Coffee bean weed and Johnson grass. Coffee bean weed grows tall with bladder pods and beans that can poison livestock mainly December through March. Johnson grass after frost risks prussic acid poisoning until the plant is fully killed. Farmers should remove coffee bean weed and monitor Johnson grass pastures from first frost.

Pvt. Columbus Reid son of Mr and Mrs Dave Reid of Comanche returned last week after more than two years with American Forces in the Southwest Pacific. A welcome home dinner was held at his parents home last Sunday with about thirty relatives and neighbors. He is on a twenty one day furlough and helped bring back wounded soldiers from the New Guinea area.
