Daniel Perry Pinkard 87 longtime resident of Brown and Comanche Counties and last surviving Indian fighter in the area died at home after a weeks illness. Funeral services were held Friday at Indian Creek with two ministers officiating. Interment followed in Indian Creek Cemetery. Born January 27 1848 in Perry County Tennessee he came to Comanche County in 1853 and married Sarah Barcroft in 1868. He helped pioneer the region and aid in driving Indians from Central Oklahoma.

Masters Leads Baylor to 18 6 Victory on Interception Return
Bob Masters former Comanche High School halfback intercepted a pass from Arkansas and returned it 53 yards for a touchdown as Baylor triumphed 18 to 6 in Saturday night action at Waco. The crucial play came with two minutes left and the score tied at six. Masters helped his 1931 Comanche regional championship fame live on the field.

Fire Destroys Mohon Property in De Leon Residence
An eight room house in De Leon owned by Mr and Mrs John A Mohon of Comanche burned Thursday night from an unknown source. Occupants Mr Whittle and family escaped with most belongings saved. Loss partly covered by insurance. Mohon family had lived there before moving to Comanche about six years ago.

Duster Chapter Wins Second at De Leon Fair
The Duster Future Farmer Chapter farm crops booth took second place at the De Leon Fair held last week. They earn 7.40 dollars to cover FFA dues. Sidney Visit by Neal Family Reunites Old Friends

Work on Highway 10 to Begin October 19
Park Huntington, Resident Engineer, says state work on Highway 10 from D Isham farm East to the Erath County line will start Saturday with October 19 as the starting date. Austin Bridge Company of Dallas holds the contract and will use a similar crew as for the City of Comanche section. The route will receive a tipile asphalt topping.
Cotton Yard Weighs Over 1000 Bales This Week At Comanche
Public Weigher estimates indicate more than 1300 bales of cotton will be weighed at the Comanche Cotton Yard by week’s end. Tuesday night’s total reached 1080 bales with daily receipts about 90 bales. A downturn is anticipated next week as roughly half the crop is gathered. The peanut crop is moving quickly and a fall run is expected next week with fair weather.

Building for Texas Centennial Breaks Ground in Dallas
Ground was broken Saturday morning for a 1.2 million dollar Texas Centennial building at the Central Exposition grounds in Dallas. Governor James V. Allred fired the dynamite charge to start construction of the permanent structure funded by a 1 million dollar construction appropriation and 200 thousand dollars for furniture and equipment.
