Funeral Rites Held For Wiley Moughan Reeves

Funeral rites were held at Comanche Funeral Home for Wiley Moughan Reeves 51 who died September 29 in New Orleans of a heart attack. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Raymond M. Burton and Rev. J. D. Smoot officiating. Survivors include his mother Mrs Effie Reeves a son Stewart Moughan Reeves of Vallejo CA and a daughter Mrs R C White of Dallas.

Mrs Albert Brannan Stricken With Polio

Mrs Albert Brannan fell ill about ten days ago and was diagnosed with polio at a Abilene hospital last Friday. She had prior treatment in Brownwood and by a local physician and was believed cured before reaching the Abilene facility. Her father County Judge R E Seay said she is progressing satisfactorily and may return home sooner than planned.

Enforcement Officers In Shake Up

A shake up in Comanche Leon and Gustine law enforcement took effect this week. Wid Spivey, former De Leon chief of police, is replaced by Ray mond Patton of Beattie as De Leon chief. O P McAdams returns to Comanche as deputy sheriff. Bryan Rinehart moves to De Leon night patrol, with Gustine awaiting a replacement.

Early frost damages crops in Comanche County

One of the earliest frosts on record hit Comanche County Monday and Tuesday nights killing some vegetation and crops. County Agent Wayde Frey estimates about ten percent of peanuts were killed. Watermelons and sweet potatoes were also damaged. cotton largely escaped, possibly helped by the cold.

Resuscitator Bought For Local Firemen

A Stephenson Resuscitator was purchased for the local Fire Department with donations from friends. Fire Chief Bob Graham and the firemen thank supporters and invite the public to an open house to see the device demonstrated. It aims to prevent asphyxial deaths from smoke, drowning, gas poisoning, and other accidents, by extending its reach to hard to access victims.

Comancheans Attend Garden Club Meeting at Belton

Delegates from 55 garden clubs in district 5 gather at the First Baptist Church Belton for the semi annual meeting. Sessions start 9 30 in the morning and 2 00 in the afternoon with dinner at noon served by the VF W Auxiliary. Comanche attendees include Mrs Spurgeon Braziel president and other local members.

Mrs. Jim Sheldon Stricken With Polio

Mrs. Jim Sheldon of Grapevine formerly Drucilla Cochran of Comanche was stricken with a serious polio case last week and is receiving treatment in Fort Worth. Her condition is said to be improving though prognosis is uncertain. She is the daughter of the late Dr and Mrs I M Cochran. Mrs Cochran now resides in Fort Worth.

Grand Jury Returns Six Indictments

The grand jury recessed after a three day session returning six indictments, all felonies. Non jury civil cases will be heard next week and a jury will not be used until Monday October 20.

Comanche Juniors Crush Stephenville In Opener

The Comanche High School Junior football team shut out Stephenville Junior Jackets 26-0 in the opening 1952 tilt. Coach Dale Biggs led the squad with assistant Donald Spivey as they built a 13-0 halftime lead and dominated the visitors. Next game is Tuesday night October 14 against Ranger.

Joe Barnes Killed in Korea

Joe Barnes son of Mrs. J2 ss Barnes of Comyn has been officially listed as killed in action by the Department of Defense. He died in the battle for Old Baldy after five days in combat, arriving in Korea in June after training in Hawaii. A Comyn High School graduate and Tarleton State College attendee, he is survived by his mother and twelve siblings.
