A petit jury will be used in District Court next week starting Monday to hear several contested civil and criminal cases. The jury list includes J. B. The array reflects a broad local cross section for upcoming trials.

Mrs. O. L. Parker a longtime Downing Comanche County resident died Saturday night. She was born July 9 1875 in Arkansas and was married to Co L Parker in 1898. She is survived by two sons a grandson five sisters and a brother and was active in the Methodist church and community welfare.

Rev. Arthur Johnson accepted the pastorate of the First Baptist Church of Comanche and will preach both morning and evening next Sunday. A Howard Payne College PR director, he is a 1934 Howard Payne and 1937 Southwestern Baptist Seminary graduate with pastorships in Smithville Dublin and Cisco.
J T McKelvey 80 longtime Proctor citizen and Comanche resident died Thursday October 9 after a brief illness. He was a Baptist deacon and former Comanche County Old Age Assistance Club president. Survived by sons Henry Will Dolph McKelvey. Funeral at Proctor Baptist Church with burial in Proctor Cemetery.
Hope Lodge No. 481 calls an important meeting at the local Masonic Lodge Hall next Thursday night October 23. A barbecue supper will be served from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. The lodge opens at 8 p.m. A Master’s Degree will be conferred.
Dr. C. W. Gray and Dr. L. K. Ory of Comanche attended a District Medical Association meeting at Hotel Brownwood Monday night. The district covers Mills Comanche Brown and San Saba Counties. The program included dinner and round table discussions, with Dr. O. B. Gober of Temple presenting Carding Emergencies and Their Treatment and Dr. C. A. Stevenson of Temple discussing X-Ray Treatments.
Gustine resident Jake Yates has received U S patent approval for the Yates Hard Boiled Egg Sheller. The WWII veteran plans mass production with chrome shells priced around $1 and non chrome at about 60 cents. He has shown the device to distributors and holds pending orders for many units.
Comanche County Vocational School gets four frame buildings from Camp Bowie via government aid. Two are hospital forms, one for a mess hall, and one for an admin block. Plans include farm shop equipment and housing for Watch School Distributive Education and three agriculture classes. Twelve more buildings to De Leon Gustine and Sidney. Henry Soward 64 of Comanche died suddenly from a stroke while riding in a car driven by Cap Fletcher near Galveston six hours after leaving Comanche with Fletcher and Ernest Soward for hospital treatment. Funeral services were held at Comanche Funeral Home with interment in Board Church Cemetery. Born July 11 1883 in Mellville Arkansas he moved to Texas as a child and later married Lucy Boatman in 1928. Survived by a sister Florence Hopkins Temple and brother Ernest Soward Comanche stepchildren Beulah Roberts Kilgore Eunice Parkman Comanche Juanita Thorp San Angelo Grace Hughes Comanche Aubrey Boatman Comanche Ray Hollis Boatman Waco. He joined the Freewill Baptist Church in youth.
Herbert Williams manager of Higginbotham Bros. & Co. wholesale department and Bob Allen left Sunday for New York City and other eastern and northern cities to visit factories mills and wholesale markets to buy merchandise for the firm.
Comanche High School hosts the German Panthers in a District 10-A game Friday at 8 p.m. Indian coach Marshall and Peters bring a improving team aiming for fifth win in six starts after a season opener loss. Panthers led by Jay defend against Marshall-Peters squad with weight edge and a strong line.
W G Streckert was named Brownwood district manager for Texas Power and Light succeeding W P Murphey who retired after 34 years. Announcement by John W Carpenter noted Murphey left due to ill health and will stay in Brownwood. Streckert has a long Brownwood tenure and civic roles with the Chamber of Commerce American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
J G Hood 73 a resident and influential citizen of the Sidney Stag Creek area for fifty four years died after a brief illness Funeral services were at Stag Creek Cemetery with Rev Bob Mec Ginnis officiating He was born December 2 1873 in Water Valley Mississippi and moved to Texas with his family in 1894 Surviving are three daughters Mrs Dave Ravenshine Mrs Gene Rachaels and Mrs Jessie Cowan three grandchildren two sisters Mrs Charlie Preston Mrs J Lane Mrs Walter Ward and Mrs Baxter Donaldson and two brothers J W Hood and G F Hood with a brother Tom Hood listed as deceased in Comanche County in 1933
The church board at Central Christian Church will meet Sunday morning immediately after Sunday School. The meeting aims to discuss securing a minister and all board members are urged to attend. Sunday School starts at 9 45 with teachers for every age. Won’t you join us.
