Comanche County banks report growth with deposits totaling 8.746 million as of October 1, up from 7.909 million a year earlier. Loans and discounts across the two main banks rose to about 2.501 million, with National and State banks showing higher figures than last year. Gustine’s First State Bank also posted a gain to 794 thousand.

Willie Smith, a school patrolman at Comanche Elementary, was struck on Highway 16 at North Austin and Neely. Stella Boyette, driving south from Route 2 De Leon, stopped but allegedly misunderstood signals as Smith turned to the car. Smith is hospitalized with a fractured rib, fractured arm, facial cuts and bruises after bystanders lifted the car.

The Comanche County Coon Hunters hold field trials at the Rodeo Grounds on Saturday night October 17 at 7 30 with prizes for best coon in barrel log hole and treeing and a trophy for largest live coon. Friday night features a field hunt under United Kennel Rules with trophies on display in The Comanche Chief window.

Rev. Plez Todd, pastor of the First Methodist Church Comanche for six and a half years, is appointed pastor of the First Methodist Church Belton by Bishop Pope. He and his wife Adelle have two children. They will move Wednesday October 21, after a lengthy Comanche tenure and notable service.
