Comanche County banks report October 3 deposits totaling 8 744 677 dollars up 195 935 from a year earlier. State National and Comanche National show gains while Gustine First State, Blanket State and De Leon branches post varying loan increases and deposit totals.
The Old Pros remain one half game ahead of the Klodhoppers after taking three of four from the Eight-Ballers while Klodhoppers defeated the Toppers. Red Durham rolled 203 for the night and Bobby Seale led with a 539 series followed by Tom Cox at 530. The Old Pros posted a 2345 three game team series.
Damon Power office manager at Central Texas Fertilizer Co. won last week’s Chief football guessing contest naming 9 of 10 winners, missing only the Indians loss to McGregor. The United Pentecostal Church at S Houston and Fleming St opens a revival on Wednesday October 12 with Rev Preston Branum as pastor and Rev W W Combs from Arlington as evangelist. Evening services start 7 30 with singing. The church supports a National Sunday School Drive for seven weeks aiming to raise 100 locally and 10000 nationally. Carlos Woolsey is the Sunday School superintendent.
Dr James F Hallmark local veterinarian named Rural Mail Carrier for Comanche Route 1 effective October 1 by Postmaster General Somerfield The route longest of five and one star route covers 68 miles serving about 325 families He will keep a limited veterinary practice in town.
Ory Beaty of Fairview Rt. 1 Comanche elected Supervisor of Subdivision 2 of the Upper Leon Soil Conservation District at a Oct 4 meeting at Soda Springs Community Center. Beaty succeeds W. J. Fritts retiring after 19 years on the board.
Peanut marketing cards issued under the marketing quota program must be returned to the county Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation office at the end of the marketing season. ASC Chairman William F. Bryant said recently. Cards are issued under the Federal marketing quota program to identify the commodity as eligible for marketing.
The Pittsburg Pirates claim the title after a 10-9 victory over the New York Yankees in game seven. Bill Mazeroski delivered a game winning home run on a 0-1 count in the Pirates' half of the ninth, as New York forced extra by tying it at nine in the bottom of the ninth.

Delegates to the County Convention met at the ASC Office in Comanche on Sept 28 and elected the 1961 Comanche County Committee. Members: F Bryant chair. J M McGinnis vice chair. H Barnett. B L Beaty first alternate. T Spencer second alternate. Committee meets each Thursday.
Rev. Robert Faulkner, a Baptist minister for fifteen years who started three mission churches, accepts the pastorate at Hasse Baptist Church. He earned a Doctor of Theology from Burton College and Seminary in Manitou Springs Colorado, and recently moved back to Comanche from Powell Wyoming where he started his latest mission. His first church formed in Woodland Park Colorado, second in Cheyenne Wyoming. Church members invite all to weekly services.
The following Petit Jury for Comanche County is summoned to meet at 9 am Monday October 17 to hear the Criminal Docket. The list includes residents and entities from Comanche De Leon Gustine Dublin and surrounding areas. Jurors named include Mrs E Arthur C W Carnes L G Holland Harold Price Jack Wheat Mrs Alfred Hanifan Tommy Gray J B Norris and many others. The notice lists potential jurors with addresses and townships.
Two Comanche Democrats Bob Carpenter and Joe Waring attended an invitational workshop Tuesday at the LBJ Ranch the home of Democratic Vice Presidential Nominee Lyndon B Johnson Former President Harry S Truman and House Speaker Sam Rayburn spoke at the workshop The school for Democratic Party workers was organized under Gerald C Mann former Texas Attorney General and Texas campaign director for Kennedy and Johnson Will Wilson Texas Attorney General and John Connally Fort Worth attorney Johnsons top aide presented organizational plans to the statewide working force
The Greater Comanche United Fund launches its 1960 61 drive with a $7 000 goal supported by local groups. Chairman Ben Evridge announces kick off next Monday October 17 and asks ex residents and out of town friends to mail contributions to State National Bank Comanche or to Ben Evridge.
Three people were hospitalized after a two car collision at Walcott and North Austin Streets. Emmett Batton, 45, a maintenance man for the Comanche Public School System, is praised as a loyal school supporter with a lifelong record of service dating to 1923. Jackie Tucker was dismissed with minor injuries. Joanna Tucker and Mrs. Lee remained hospitalized with more serious head injuries.
A new repair shop named Double D Motors opens this Friday just west of the Highway 36 East overpass. Milton Dodd, owner, brings 15 years of automotive repair experience including diesel trucks and tractors. He offers 24 hour service for farmers and resides at 205 West Neely with his wife and four and a half month old son. Mrs. Dodd is the daughter of Mrs. Herman Northcutt of Comanche and sister of Mrs. Joe Evridge of Comanche.
Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Findley of Fort Worth spent the weekend visiting with Mr. and Mrs. N. N. Durham and Mr. and Mrs. George Simmons.
University of Texas Longhorns defeated Oklahoma Sooners 24 to 0 in Dallas on Saturday. Dr and Mrs William T Calhoun were among local fans watching the Texas victory for the third consecutive year.
