The note reports Miles Eagles de Champs won both tests while Journey lost 44 to Gustine last Wednesday.
World famous teacher A C Wimpee will speak to the Baptist Brotherhood at Zion Hill Church Thursday October 17 at 7 o'clock. He serves as associate secretary of the Baptist Brotherhood of Texas and has spoken to over 850 000 people last year on religious education. Floyd Jones president of the Comanche County Brotherhood invites all to attend and enjoy a barbeque supper. Those planning to attend should contact Mr Jones by Tuesday morning.
Obe Burgurs Elliott 11, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Burgurs Elliott of Hasse Rt. 1 Comanche, died Monday October 7 after two months of illness. A Comanche Junior High student, his funeral was Tuesday October 8 at the Comanche Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Sardis Cemetery near Hasse. Pallbearers named. He was born July 31 1946 in Gorman and attended J B Layne Elementary. He planned to enter junior high this fall and was active in Sunday School and had been converted last summer. Survived by his parents a sister Sileta and grandparents.
Herschel Hinshaw 30 and recent Snyder resident begins as mortician at Comanche Funeral Home on October 1. A Sweetwater High School and Landry College of Mortuary Science graduate, he has 14 years in West Texas funeral work with Wells Cate Spencer and Bolger firms. He and wife Patsy plus 93 year old daughter live at the funeral home and attend Baptist Church.
The Eastern Star will stage a rummage sale in the Envridge Building on East Side of the square this Saturday October 12. Organizers say gift aprons will also be for sale along with lots of rummage and invite patronage.
The Dudley Bros of Comanche will enter twelve steers in the Hereford division of the American Royal Livestock and Horse Show in Kansas City October 19 to 26. The eight day expo offers more than 750 classes and over 75 000 dollars in awards, with a separate 50 000 dollar horse show. Exhibitors from 44 states and Canada attend, including 4 H and FFA members and major national herds.
The Comanche County Dairy Association will meet next Tuesday night October 15 per an Armstrong announcement. We urge full attendance of all members.
Mr and Mrs Bill Wilkerson joined her parents Mr and Mrs M W Blanton of Temple in Dallas on Monday for the State Fair and to see the play My Fair Lady.
The Grand Jury for the October term 1957 reports fourteen true bills of indictment. They examined 23 witnesses over two days and found all felonies. They thank Judge Cross for guidance and note sheriff deputies county attorney and attorney aided them. They inspected the jail and found it in good repair. Reese W. Neal aged 99, oldest man in Comanche County, died Sunday October 6 at 11:45 am at his Sidney home. Funeral 2 pm Tuesday October 8 at Sidney Baptist Church with Rev. Wardlow and other ministers officiating. Burial in Pendergrass Cemetery. Born August 1, 1858 in Carrol County Georgia he moved to Texas early and lived in Comanche County 72 years. He married Sarah Jane Ayers in October 1877 they were together until her death at 87. He was a retired farmer.
E W Gleaton of Comanche won last week’s Comanche Chief football guessing contest with 9 correct picks. C G Kiser and E W Sullivan tied for second with 9, missing the Miami upset. Kiser earns San Saba Comanche game tickets and Sullivan a year’s Chief subscription.
English workshop held at Howard Payne College in Brownwood last weekend drew Comanche public school teachers including Oscar Hill John King J E Lightfoot and Homer Palmer. Other notes mention turkey marketing emphasis and pest precautions as cited by F Z Beanblossom. The text also lists surviving relatives and family details related to a local obituary.
Comanche Indians prepared for a Friday 8 p.m. clash with San Saba Armadillos in their last nonconference game of the year. San Saba routed Llano 20 7 and Menard 64 0 while Comanche seeks improved health and form after a string of heavy defeats.

The Comanche County Farm Bureau will hold its annual Policy Development meeting in the County Court Room on Monday October 14 at 8 00 p m Hezzie Dean is the committee chairman urging all members to attend The meeting aims to craft resolutions for the State Farm Bureau convention with voting delegates to decide on November 17 at the Adolphus Hotel Dallas
Funeral services for George L. Morris 97 will be at 10 oclock Saturday morning October 12 at the Comanche Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. He died at the local hospital Thursday morning after a two week illness from a broken hip. Surviving children include Mrs Clara Tran and Mrs Sutton Dudley of Comanche Mrs Mollie Huffstutler of Bonham Mrs Maude House of Tempe Arizona and Mrs Vivia of Scottsdale Arizona.
The Wesleyan Service Guild has postponed its October meeting from the 14th to the 21st. Members are advised to adjust schedules accordingly and attend the rescheduled session at the usual venue.
The Comanche Braves meet the De Leon Bearkittens Thursday night at Indian Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is 7 30. The Braves have won 2 and lost 1 after rescheduling a game with Hamilton Pups due to illness. Bobby Evans returns and the team aims for a strong performance against the Bearkittens.
