Comanche County Highway No 16 Gets 79000 Grant

The Texas State Highway Department approves 79000 for Highway No 16 in Comanche County. Work covers grading drainage and caliche base from south of Comanche to the county line, completing the route as an all weather road with asphalt surfacing set for a future program. Right of way and curve relocations may be required by County action.

Ike Moore Promoted to Major in U.S. Army

Leslie Ike Moore, son of Mrs. C M Moore of Comanche, has been promoted to major in the U S Army. He serves in the Adjutant General's Department at Camp Mead near Baltimore and is a Texas A&M graduate who joined the Regular Army last year.

Methodist Church Urges Full Attendance Sunday

The Comanche Methodist Church Board of Stewards urges full membership attendance at the 11 o clock Sunday service. Pastor Rev. E R Gordon will share a special message on the church's work and a year review, outlining goals before the Fort Worth Annual Conference on November 5. Members are asked to sacrifice to attend and invite visitors.

West Ward Girl Injured in Car Accident

Alma Sue Sparkman seven year old daughter of Mr and Mrs E J Sparkman of Harmony was injured Tuesday afternoon near the Comanche High School Building when she ran from the Snack Shack across from the Comanche Gymnasium into the path of a car driven by Elaine Waggoner She struck the front fender with her head fractured skull preliminary exam by Comanche physicians she was rushed to a Brownwood hospital by Thursday morning she was reported in improved condition

Death of Comanche County farmer E Tupin at 76

E Tupin 76 longtime Comanche County farmer died at his home in Comanche at 3 30 a m Wednesday after a week long illness. Funeral services were held at the Comanche Funeral Home Thursday with Rev J D Smoot and Rev A J Helm. interment White Point Cemetery. Survived by widow Malissa Parker Tupin from whom he married December 20 1891 and eleven children including Mrs Allen Smith Mrs H L Ebert Parker Tupin Chester Tupin Mrs C C Gleaton Melrose New Mexico Ruth Laughlin Mrs Arthur Bear Roy Tupin Jay Tupin Willie Tupin, plus a sister Mrs C Speed Houston 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He joined the Methodist Church at 28 and served as a steward for years.

Bill Thomas Shot To Death In Dublin Disturbance

Murray Thomas 24, former Comanche resident and Tom Douglas’s son in law, was fatally shot in Dublin Tuesday after a disturbance in which he allegedly struck Night watchman Cole 55 who then fired. Thomas died Thursday. funeral set in Dublin. His widow is Imogene Douglas.

Rains Delay Heavy Peanut Movement in Comanche County

Heavy movement of Comanche County's 1941 peanut crop is delayed a week to ten days due to rain. Walter Durham of Durham Pecan and Peanut Co says a spell of good weather would boost harvesting. Peanuts have begun sprouting in some areas, and yields may reach 50 to 60 bushels per acre with average around 25 to 28. Corene Steward and Maudine Brazier visited Dallas Sunday and attended the Dallas Fair.

Tax Now Levied On Football Tickets

A defense tax becomes effective October 1 and will be collected on all football tickets. In Comanche the tax applies at tonight’s game between Comanche and Hamilton with ticket prices 10c 30c and 40c including tax, up from 10c 25c and 35c.
