Cotton and wheat yield disappointing returns while feed grains and forage offer higher value when used as farm produced livestock feed. The farmer seeks profitable mix of grain and roughage and pasture to maximize income from surplus crops.

Grain and Feed Convert Farm Output Into Higher Pork Returns

The article argues that when grain is available, stock cows and ewes are better for fattening than calves or lambs, while hogs and poultry suit grain-rich feed. It cites that ten bushels of corn could produce pork worth far more than cash grain price, and a North Texas community could have earned about $10,000 more by finishing hogs rather than selling raw corn, urging farmers to turn feed into finished products rather than quitting too soon.
